When Yvette Yeats opened her eyes, she was met with a stark white ceiling and the pungent, overwhelming scent of antiseptic.
"What happened to me?"
"You fainted, Yvette," Matthew Sutton said, hurrying to her bedside. "The doctor said the baby is at risk of a miscarriage. You need to stay calm. As for your mother, I'll help you contact the best specialists available."
Yvette's eyes reddened as heavy tears spilled down her cheeks.
She placed a gentle hand over her stomach, silently pleading with her baby. *You have to be strong, little one. Your grandmother is fighting for her life right now.*
She couldn't just stand by and do nothing. Her baby would understand, wouldn't it?
When she looked up again, her gaze was filled with unwavering resolve.
She abruptly ripped the IV needle from the back of her hand. Beads of blood immediately welled up, trailing down her fingers in a winding red line that starkly contrasted with her porcelain skin. It was a shocking sight.
Matthew quickly grabbed a tissue and pressed it against her hand, but Yvette didn't flinch.
"Yvette, Joanne is with your mother right now. Your main priority is keeping the baby safe. This is your only child," Lance Yeats pleaded, his heart aching for his niece.
"If anything happens to you, how am I supposed to face my sister?"
A fresh layer of tears blurred Yvette's vision, but she forcefully blinked them back. "Uncle Lance, you know how I am. I have to go."
They stared at each other in a tense standoff, neither willing to yield, until Lance finally took a step back.
"I'll let you go, but you have to promise me you'll prioritize your own health. Don't push yourself too hard," Lance said, his voice heavy. "You are my sister's only child. If something happens to you, I'd never be able to forgive myself or look her in the eye when my time comes."
"I know," Yvette replied, her voice trembling.
"Let's go."
The three of them hurried back to the surgical wing.
The operating room doors finally swung open, and the lead surgeon stepped out, his expression grim.
