Blythe Lovell reached the door of the restoration lab, nearly colliding with Eleanor Stern, whose expression was icy.
"Director Stern, what brings you here?" Blythe probed cautiously.
Director Stern rarely visited the lab unless there was an issue. Her sudden appearance made the panic in Blythe's heart swell.
Eleanor merely scoffed. Blythe walked into the lab, seeing that Yvette Yeats had already packed her things.
She looked at Yvette with amusement, lowering her voice as she approached. "You've packed up, so why aren't you hurrying off?"
"I'm waiting for you," Yvette smiled faintly. "It's nice to have some company on the road so I'm not lonely."
"You..." Blythe was about to retort when she heard Director Stern clap her hands.
"Everyone, gather in the conference room," Eleanor announced, leading the way.
Yvette paused as she walked past Blythe, her voice laced with amusement. "I'll be waiting for you."
A dense layer of sweat broke out on Blythe's forehead. She had no energy left to argue back.
Once everyone else left the lab, she dialed Willow Huxley's number again.
It rang for a long time, but no one answered.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later..."
Her heart sank.
Ten minutes later, everyone from Restoration Teams One and Two gathered in the conference room.
Blythe was the last to enter. Yvette noticed the look of absolute despair on her face.
Willow was entirely selfish; there was no way she would waste her energy on a discarded pawn.
Acting uncharacteristically quiet, Blythe chose a seat in the corner.
"Today, I have a major announcement to make," Director Stern said, her sharp gaze sweeping across the room.
