"Step on it, Leo!"
Leo pressed hard on the gas pedal, flooring it.
Ten minutes later, a black SUV pulled into Kingsbrook General Hospital.
When Dr. Albright saw Milton, she asked, "What's your relationship to the patient?"
Milton hesitated for two seconds. "A friend."
Dr. Albright pondered for a moment, said nothing, and entered the treatment room.
It was already 1:00 AM by the time Yvette was wheeled out.
"Doctor, how is she?"
"She was already severely depleted and hasn't been resting properly. For the next little while, she needs to be on a highly nutritious diet and absolutely must keep her stress levels down."
Milton frowned, not expecting her condition to be this fragile.
"Thank you, Doctor."
After getting Yvette settled in a VIP suite, Milton pulled out his phone and opened his chat with Jabez Shelby.
His finger hovered over the screen, but ultimately, he locked it and shoved the phone back into his pocket.
He shifted his gaze back to Yvette on the bed. She was curled up tightly, her brow furrowed, sleeping very restlessly.
He lay down on the accompanying cot, hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought.
The next morning, at 9:00 AM.
Yvette woke up from the sharp pain in her palm. Opening her eyes, she saw a young nurse applying ointment to her hand.
"Your boyfriend went to take care of the bill. He'll be right back."
Yvette thought back for a second. The person who had rescued her yesterday was Milton; the nurse must have misunderstood.
She nodded to show she understood.
Using her left hand to feel around the bed, she found her phone and shot Charlotte Clark a text.
The nurse helped her take a sip of water and left.
Milton walked in, still wearing the same black suit from yesterday, holding an insulated food container.
He set up the overbed table and laid out the food. "Time to eat."
