Yvette Yeats raised a hand to cut off his frantic gestures. "You don't need to put on a pathetic act for me. I won't soften up just because you're crying. I'll let the law handle this."
Derek Creed wept bitterly, scrambling to explain. "I swear, I don't know why I did it that day. It was like I was completely out of my mind, possessed by something!"
He seemed to be grasping at any excuse he could find to justify his actions.
"Yes, yes, exactly! I wasn't in my right mind. What happened wasn't my true intention at all!"
His face was a mask of exaggerated remorse.
Just then, Charlotte Clark walked into the room. She pulled a police officer aside and whispered something urgently into his ear.
The officer's already stern expression hardened, a chill settling in his eyes.
"Mr. Creed, please unlock your phone. We need to conduct a search."
Creed's sobbing abruptly ceased. His eyes darted nervously around the room. "My phone is private property. How can I just let you dig through it?"
The officer didn't waste his breath arguing. He lunged forward to confiscate the device.
Smash!
Using every ounce of strength he had left, Creed hurled the phone violently onto the hard floor.
In an instant, the screen shattered into a spiderweb of cracked glass.
His desperate maneuver only screamed of guilt. The officer's face darkened with frustration.
"Don't treat our cyber unit like fools. With this level of damage, they can recover the data in minutes."
Creed feigned innocent shock. "Wait, let me explain! It just slipped out of my hand, I swear I didn't do it on purpose."
"Whether it was intentional or not doesn't matter." The officer scooped up the ruined phone, gave Yvette a curt nod, and strode out of the hospital room.
Charlotte moved to Yvette's side. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
Seeing that she had no intention of letting him off the hook, Creed glared at her with vicious intensity. But remembering the wails of his child and the panicked face of his wife, he was forced to swallow his rage in silence.
Meanwhile, at Solstice Auctions.
Two police officers knocked on the door of Restoration Unit Two. The staff inside gasped in surprise at the sight of the uniforms.
"We're from the Kingsbrook Police Department. Which one of you is Willow Huxley?" one of the officers asked, flashing his badge.
"That's me." Willow stepped forward, her brow furrowed in polite confusion. "How can I help you, officers?"
