Willow smashed her palms against the steering wheel twice in sheer frustration. It wasn't until the car behind her honked that she finally threw it into drive and sped off.

Yvette's grip on her own steering wheel tightened.

She wasn't blind to how generous Jabez was with Willow. It had been that way for a long time.

If he was willing to throw away a fortune on a custom gown, a three-hundred-thousand-dollar luxury car was nothing.

On the cruise ship.

Trent threw an arm around Milton's shoulders, his eyes gleaming with gossip. "I saw you carrying a woman to your car the other night. Who was it?"

Willow casually ran her thumb over her fingertips.

She didn't believe for a second that Milton would fall for anyone else.

Even Jabez, who usually couldn't care less about gossip, shot Milton a curious glance.

Three burning gazes zeroed in on him.

Milton brushed Trent's arm away, his expression neutral. "Nobody."

Playing with her building blocks nearby, Nola noticed his deflection and chimed in with her sweet, crisp voice, "Daddy, it was the pretty lady! Why aren't you telling them?"

Trent walked over and scooped the little girl up, flashing a mischievous grin. "Has our Princess Nola met her?"

"Of course I have!" Nola nodded enthusiastically. "We went to the movies, we drew pictures, and we collected leaves. We played lots and lots of fun games together."

A sudden, inexplicable tension gripped Milton's chest. His first instinct was to shush his daughter.

Willow smiled sweetly. "What does this pretty lady look like, sweetie?"

"She's so, so pretty. Like a fairy princess."

Hearing that, a sharp pang of jealousy pierced Willow's heart.

But she quickly consoled herself—a little kid had no real concept of beauty. There was no point in getting worked up over a child's babble.

"Does Nola know the lady's name?" Jabez asked, his eyes softening as he looked at the little girl.

She tilted her head, thinking hard, only to realize she had never actually asked.

"I don't know."

Milton let out a quiet breath of relief and held his hands out to her. "Come here, let Daddy hold you."
