Zeno walked away.
Matthew leaned in closer to Yvette. "Are you tired? Want to go rest for a bit?"
"I'm fine."
He scanned the bustling ballroom.
"Your main focus is restoration. Out here, it's all corporate networking. I need to make some rounds. Go take a seat and relax."
With Cloudwood Gallery shaping up to be a major rival, Matthew had to solidify relations with their business partners.
"Okay."
Matthew led Yvette to a plush sofa along the wall. "I'll grab you a plate."
A few minutes later, he returned with a plate piled high with all her favorites.
"Thanks, Matthew." Yvette's eyes crinkled into a bright, genuine smile.
Her sofa faced the main entrance.
That exact moment was when Jabez, Willow, Trent, and Milton walked into the hall.
What they saw was Yvette, completely relaxed, smiling radiantly as Matthew affectionately ruffled her hair.
Willow immediately turned to gauge Jabez's reaction. He gave the pair a single, sweeping glance before looking away, his face entirely unreadable.
"Looks like Yvette has her claws firmly in Mr. Sutton. He treats her well enough, but there's no way old Professor Crispin will accept her," Trent commented.
Milton's dark eyes flickered, his brow furrowing slightly.
"Ms. Yeats has a knack for charming older people. She might just win him over," Willow said smoothly.
"Not a chance. The Professor is notoriously old-fashioned. He would never let a divorced woman marry into the Sutton family."
Trent declared confidently.
"Willow!"
Chloe bounded over, wearing a fluffy pink dress and a literal sparkling tiara, looking every bit a spoiled princess.
"Hi, Milton." She stopped in front of him, her cheeks flushed.
"Chloe," Milton acknowledged with a polite nod. "Is your brother here?"
"No."
"Who's this?" Trent elbowed Milton playfully.
Milton jabbed him right back.
