She couldn't rely on Matthew to shield her forever. As long as she remained in Kingsbrook, running into Jabez was an unavoidable occupational hazard. She needed to prove to herself that she could stand in front of him without letting her emotions crack.
It took exactly one day for her to pack up her apartment at Skyview Gardens and move into the Sutton estate.
"Yvette, are you going to tell the Yeats family you've moved in with us?" Winona asked, setting a bowl of steaming, nourishing broth on the table.
"Thank you for the broth, Winona. Yes, I'll let them know." Yvette took a slow sip.
Jabez could waltz into the Yeats family home whenever he pleased. The Sutton estate, however, was highly secure and fiercely private.
"I heard Willow Huxley is playing senior restorer over at Cloudwood. You'll definitely run into her tomorrow. Be careful."
"I will."
Yvette rested a hand gently over her stomach.
No matter what happened, she would keep this baby safe.
Sure enough.
The next morning at Cloudwood Gallery, Willow was draped confidently by Jabez's side, acting every bit the majestic lady of the house.
Yvette didn't spot a single employee from the Shelby Group in the venue.
Since she was officially representing Crispin, a staff member immediately guided her to a private lounge to wait.
Just as the ceremony was about to begin, Yvette opened the door to leave. She heard a woman's sickeningly sweet voice from around the corner, clinging to Jabez.
"Do you think Professor Crispin will actually come?"
"No. But he sent a representative."
Yvette waited until their footsteps faded before stepping out completely.
Every chair in the main hall had a name card. She found the front-row seat labeled for Crispin Sutton and sat down gracefully.
Willow, who was busy schmoozing nearby, spotted her immediately. She excused herself from the crowd and marched over, her face twisted in indignation.
"Why are you sitting in Professor Crispin's chair?"
Yvette looked at her like she was an idiot, raising a single brow. "Isn't it obvious? I'm here representing him."
"Bullshit!" Willow hissed, refusing to believe it. There was no way the Professor would entrust Yvette with something like this.
