“Speak.”

“I’ll play along and cover for you with Sybil, but you have to approve my formal resignation immediately. As of Monday, I’m done at the company.”

He stared at her for a long two seconds before nodding. “Fine.”

Yvette let out a silent sneer.

If Sybil ever found out that Jabez was flaunting Willow right under her nose, the old matriarch would make sure Willow never set foot in the Shelby family!

She had to hand it to him, though.

Jabez was incredibly thorough when it came to protecting Willow.

He refused to let her take on even an ounce of risk.

As for Mr. Calder’s project, it was already in its final stages. Even without her, Jabez could easily assign someone else to wrap it up.

The only reason she had promised Mr. Calder she would stay until the end was because Sybil had been the one to introduce them in the first place.

She had wanted to see it through properly.

But right now, she’d rather quit than watch Jabez and Willow play house for another second.

With their deal struck, Jabez didn't linger. He stood up and left the suite.

Determined to avoid bumping into them again, Yvette decided to stay locked in her room.

Later, her phone buzzed with a call from Matthew Sutton.

“Charlotte wanted me to ask when you’re officially joining the Azure Atelier.”

Hearing the slight hesitation in his voice, Yvette smiled. She knew he was giving her a gentle push to move forward.

“Tuesday.”

“That’s the day after tomorrow?” Matthew sounded visibly surprised; he clearly hadn't expected her to commit so soon.

“Unless you’d rather I start next month?”

“No, no, no, Tuesday is perfect!” He hung up quickly, as if terrified she might change her mind.

Yvette chuckled softly as she stared at the screen.

Outside, Jabez and the others were gathered around the barbecue grill.

Trent flipped a skewer, brushing oil over the meat as he glanced at Jabez. “Sybil really is going all out trying to play matchmaker for you and Yvette.”

Milton nodded in agreement. “You’ve been married for seven years. If a spark was going to happen, it would have happened by now. What’s the point of forcing it?”

Willow couldn't have agreed more.

Sybil was just old and out of touch, stubbornly clinging to a useless marriage.

“What are you doing back here?”

His dark gaze slid down her figure, lingering for a moment. “Put some clothes on.”

With that, he turned on his heel and walked out of the master bedroom.

Yvette froze, suddenly realizing what had just happened. She looked down at herself.

She never wore a bra to sleep, which meant... he had just seen everything?

Quickly throwing on a proper shirt, she walked out into the living room, shooting him a silent, questioning glare.

He closed the distance between them with his long, athletic strides and shoved his phone toward her.

Yvette took it, glancing at the screen—and nearly jumped out of her skin.

She forcefully pasted a bright smile on her face. On the other end of the video call, Sybil beamed with delight at seeing them together in the same room.

“Yvette, dear, Jabez mentioned you all had a barbecue tonight?”

“We sure did. Trent and the others were there, too,” Yvette replied, shooting a covert glare at Jabez.

He had been eating barbecue with Willow, yet he was shamelessly attributing it to her.

But to Sybil, that subtle exchange of glares looked exactly like a couple secretly flirting.
