Matthew walked over and shook Lance's hand. "How have you been lately, Mr. Yeats?"
Matthew was currently at the peak of his success, yet in front of Lance, he put on zero airs and remained completely humble.
Lance looked at him with visible satisfaction.
"I'm doing great," Lance praised. "I heard all about your recent achievements. Taking first place at the Solstice Auctions competition and securing a partnership with them—your future is limitless."
"You flatter me, Mr. Yeats." Matthew took off his jacket and set it aside.
"Yvette, go to the kitchen and wash some fruit for everyone," Lance told her.
"I'll do it." Matthew gently pushed Yvette back into her seat as she tried to stand up, navigating to the kitchen purely from memory.
Feeling bad about letting a guest serve them, Yvette got up and followed him.
"Let me," Yvette said softly.
"It's fine. There's no need to be formal with me." Matthew pulled some fruit from the fridge.
Yvette didn't push the issue and quietly leaned against the glass door of the kitchen.
"Is there anything you're craving? I'll cook," Matthew said, looking over at her.
Her delicate features were completely free of makeup, yet she was so stunning he could hardly look away.
Back when she studied under his father, Professor Crispin, Yvette was constantly over at the Sutton house. Eating dinner there was a regular occurrence, and they even kept a spare room just for her.
Whenever her studies ran late, she would simply crash at their place.
Matthew's cooking rivaled that of a five-star chef, and she had eaten plenty of his meals back then.
Now that he mentioned it, the memories came rushing back.
"I'm craving Wasabi Shrimp Balls and Golden Crispy Bites," Yvette admitted, licking her lips.
Knowing he had tempted her appetite, Matthew beamed. "Done. Good thing I bought shrimp."
The sunlight streaming through the window bathed Matthew in a golden glow, making his gentle demeanor seem even warmer.
His tall frame considerately blocked the harsh glare of the sun for Yvette, and his eyes were full of affection as he looked down at her.
Seeing that she couldn't sway him, Joanne looked at Yvette for help.
Since Yvette vouched for him, Joanne relented.
The two of them went into the kitchen together.
An hour later.
Matthew brought out the dishes Yvette had been dreaming about, calling out to the living room, "Dinner's ready!"
Yvette and Charlotte walked over to help carry the plates. Just as Yvette stepped out of the kitchen, she bumped into Matthew coming back in.
"I've got these. You just grab the silverware," Matthew said, smoothly taking the plates from her hands.
Yvette knew he was babying her because of her pregnancy, so she simply said, "Thank you."
She turned back into the kitchen to grab the bowls and forks.
