Chapter 104 Lines Drawn
To be more precise, the atmosphere had turned heavy and tense.
Only then did Linda finally feel the knot in her stomach loosen.

After leaving Noah’s room, Teresa left first with her team, while Xavier stayed behind to give Jacob instructions on reorganizing Noah’s care staff.
Isabella caught up with Rachel in the hallway and, once Harry was out of earshot, handed her a neatly folded note.
“These are some medications that could help with Noah’s condition. Used together, they should make a real difference in his recovery.”
Rachel gave a small, appreciative smile, took the note, and nodded quietly before walking away.
Once the young caregiver had been quietly compensated and dismissed, Linda approached Xavier again, her voice trembling slightly. “Xavier, this was all my fault. I wasn’t careful enough. From now on, I swear I’ll-”
“Froth now on, stay away from Noah.” Xavier finished giving orders to Jacob before delivering the cold, flat statement to Linda.
What he didn’t expect was that as soon as he stepped out into the corridor, Linda suddenly rushed forward and wrapped her arms around his waist from behind.
“Are you still upset with me?”
Isabella happened to walk around the corner just in time to see it.
Xavier had just pried Linda’s hands loose when he turned and met Isabella’s gaze.
The moment their eyes locked, Isabella’s body stiffened slightly. Honestly, seeing Linda throw herself at him like that in the middle of the hospital was pretty bold.
But the words “still upset with me” carried a certain intimacy—a history.
Lately, even she had noticed Xavier’s frosty demeanor toward Linda. If this was about something personal between them, well, that wasn’t impossible. After all, she couldn’t read minds…
A wife in name only, a marriage of convenience–what right did she have to comment on other people’s boundaries?
Still, turning around and walking away now would seem weak, almost cowardly.
Xavier’s expression darkened instantly, and Linda quickly released him.
“Isabella, please don’t misunderstand–I just needed to talk to Xavier about something…”
“If you’re already putting your hands on him, what’s left to misunderstand? Is hugging someone like that a normal way to have a conversation? Or is knowingly clinging to a married man considered acceptable behavior where you come from, Ms. Allen?”
Isabella cut her off, her tone calm and almost pleasant, yet each word landed like a sharp, deliberate slap.
She hadn’t planned on getting involved, but Linda’s timid, half–hearted apology was grating.

The more Linda played the victim in front of her and Xavier, the more it felt like à quiet challenge.
And as it happened, Isabella wasn’t in the mood to back down. If someone handed her the bat, she’d swing.

Kavier had already closed the distance between them. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his serious gaze held hers as if he wanted to explain but didn’t know where to begin.
After a moment, his lips parted, leaving only a low, steady sentence. “Everything’s handled here. Let’s head back.”
His voice was quiet. As he spoke, he took Isabella’s hand, deliberately enfolding it completely in his palm and giving it a subtle, reassuring squeeze.
Driven by some primal feminine instinct–and right in front of Linda–Isabella didn’t pull away.
But the smile she gave him was laced with sarcasm. “Are you sure? I wouldn’t want to interrupt. Why don’t you just give me the keys, and I’ll head back alone?”
Xavier’s brow furrowed, his expression tightening at her words.
But he ignored her sharp tone and replied evenly, “You’re my wife. You could never interrupt me. What interrupts us… is other people.”
Surprisingly, that eased a tightness in Isabella’s chest.
Even if he was just saying it for appearance’s sake, it was still more considerate than anything she was used to.
She pressed her lips together softly.
“Isabella, I’m sorry… I acted on impulse and crossed a line. From now on, I’ll be more careful…”
Just then, Linda’s soft, tearful voice chimed in. Trembling slightly, she lowered her head in apology, looking utterly pitiful.
“There won’t be a ‘from now on!”
Before Isabella could respond, Xavier’s cold voice cut through the hallway. “Everything that needed saying between us has been said. Moore Group will no longer be doing business with the Allen family. Consider the factory matter closed–Jacob will handle the details.
“We won’t be seeing each other again.”
The finality in his tone struck Isabella like a sudden chill.
