The exchange between the two women grew more cutting with each passing moment, yet the young intern remained composed, refusing to back down.
“I appreciate the internship opportunity,” she said, her voice steady but firm, “but I didn’t come here just to fetch coffee and listen to office gossip every day. I was hoping to be given real responsibilities–actual work that matters–not just treated like an errand girl.”
“Slap!”
A sharp, crisp sound cut through the air, silencing her mid–sentence.
“If you have a problem with how things are done here,” one of the women snapped, “you’re free to leave. And don’t bother coming back tomorrow.”
Isabella’s heart tightened. Without hesitation, she pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The two women, dressed in crisp office attire, startled at the intrusion. When they turned and saw Isabella, their expressions froze instantly.
“Ms. Carter-” one began, but the words caught in her throat. She exchanged a quick, uncertain glance with her colleague, and neither seemed to know whether they should greet her properly or not.
How long had Isabella been standing there? Had she heard everything?
Ignoring them, Isabella swept a cold look across the room before her gaze settled on the figure standing behind them.
A plainly dressed young woman stood with her head slightly bowed. She looked to be in her early twenties, with neat chin–length hair and an empty coffee cup clutched in her hands.
“Are you alright?” Isabella asked, her tone softening as she brushed straight past the two employees without a second glance.
She moved to the intern’s side and gently lifted her face. A vivid red handprint stood out against her cheek. The girl’s eyes were pooled with tears, and at Isabella’s touch, they spilled over silently.
Flustered, the intern quickly wiped her cheeks and shook her head, as if to say she was fine.
Seeing the scene unfolding, the two employees tried to slip away quietly, but Isabella’s voice, cool and commanding, stopped them in their tracks.

She turned and, before either could react, swiftly unpinned the work badges from their blouses. They tensed, caught off guard.
“Isabella, what are you doing?” the taller woman demanded, her voice sharp as she reached for her badge.
Isabella raised her hand, easily avoiding the grab, and offered a cold, faint smile. “What’s the hurry? It’s not like I’m keeping them. But considering you’ve been wasting time gossiping, bullying a newcomer, and contributing nothing but negativity to this workplace… I’d say these badges have outlived their purpose.”
“We were just helping out by making coffee for the team–that’s not slacking off,” the other woman chimed in quickly, her tone placating. She tugged discreetly at her colleague’s sleeve, urging her to stay calm. “And if we said anything inappropriate earlier, we apologize. As for bullying… that’s really a misunderstanding.
“This intern has been disrespectful and her work hasn’t been up to standard. We just lost our tempers for a moment.”
“Lost your tempers? Is that what you call slapping someone?” Isabella’s voice dripped with disdain.
“We got carried away, that’s all-”
“So physical assault is ‘getting carried away, and spreading malicious talk is just ‘loose lips‘? Is that how you justify your behavior?”
The woman opened her mouth to reply, but Isabella cut her off sharply.
After a tense pause, the employee reluctantly nodded. “Fine. We were in the wrong.”
“Why are you apologizing to her?” the taller woman burst out, unable to contain her irritation any longer. “So what if we talked about her or slapped her? Who does she think she is?”
“Smack-”
No sooner had the words left her mouth than Isabella’s hand connected sharply with her cheek, snapping her head to the side.
The woman stared in disbelief, her hand flying to her stinging skin. “You hit me?”
“You asked what I was going to do about it,” Isabella replied coldly. “That was for the disgusting things you said. Consider it a light punishment–I didn’t want to hurt my hand.”

With that, she took both badges in her hand, bent them until they snapped in two, and tossed the pieces neatly into the nearby trash bin.
“Company policy clearly states that any behavior undermining teamwork or engaging in workplace harassment constitutes gross misconduct and grounds for immediate termination. Starting tomorrow, neither of you needs to return. And as for your assault on this young woman… thirty percent of each of your final paychecks will be withheld to cover emotional distress and any necessary medical expenses.”
The two women stood stunned, struggling to process what had just happened.
The taller one let out a bitter, disbelieving laugh. Enraged, she lunged forward as if to strike Isabella back, but Isabella caught her wrist effortlessly and shoved her away with force.
The other employee quickly grabbed her arm, pulling her back. “Stop it! If you hit her now, even if you were right, you’d end up wrong! Let’s go straight to Mr. Moore–she doesn’t have the authority to fire us without his approval!”
Hearing that, the taller woman seemed to regain a sliver of composure.
“You’re right,” she hissed, glaring at Isabella. “Don’t think you can play queen around here just because Mr. Moore shows you some favor. Linda used to be his favorite too, and look where she ended up. I’ve been with this company for years–my department’s performance is among the highest in the entire corporation—”
“You’re correct. Your department is indeed one of the company’s core revenue drivers.”
Before she could finish, a deep, calm male voice sounded from the doorway. Xavier walked in, his expression unreadable as he took in the scene before him.
