Hannah stared at Harry, caught off guard. His eyes were still locked on her face, intense and unwavering.
Truth be told, Harry was attractive. Not in a flashy, stops–you–in–your–tracks way, but he had that clean, fair complexion, nicely balanced features, and a quiet, bookish vibe–the kind that grows on you slowly without you even noticing.
A thought flashed through Hannah’s mind: a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
That gentle, harmless exterior masking something restless and untamed underneath.
But then again, maybe she was the only one who’d ever describe him like that. To everyone else, Harry was just that soft–spoken, genuinely nice guy.
“Harry,” she began, hesitating for a second before deciding to just lay it out plain. “I know this might sound conceited, but we’ve been over for years. There’s no going back to how things
were.”
Dealing with all this… It was just exhausting.
“Were we ever really a thing to begin with?” Harry shot back, his voice calm, his expression innocent yet edged with something playful.
His words left her speechless.
Back in their college days, Hannah had always been good to Harry. They’d hung out every day, almost like a couple, but when he’d finally asked her to make it official, she’d turned him down.
Even so, Harry had kept sticking around, following her like a loyal puppy.
Maybe that was the one time in his life he’d let himself be that naive.
As Hannah moved to leave, Harry’s voice followed her. “Because I looked like him, the princess found herself a stand–in. A perfect fit.”
Hannah’s heart clenched sharply.
An old, buried wound torn open before she could even brace herself.
“Turns out the stand–in was too dumb. Didn’t play the part well enough, so the princess called it off.”

Hannah turned her head, tilting her chin up with deliberate defiance. “You’re right. I used you. But it was a two–way street. Don’t tell me you still think I owe you an apology.”
“Hannah.” The corners of Harry’s lips lifted slightly, his voice dropping to a softer, lower register. “This time, I’ll be the stand–in you actually want. Could you… give me another shot?”
Hannah froze. She just stood there, staring at him in disbelief, trying to process what he’d just said.
“We were totally in sync during the quiz earlier,” Harry went on, his tone gentle. “That wasn’t just luck or some random spark. It’s because I know how your mind works.”
When you spend every day thinking about someone, wondering what they’d do or say, guessing the answers to simple questions like those becomes second nature.
“Maybe to you, I was just someone passing through. But after you walked into my life, there was never going to be anyone else.”
Hannah parted her lips slightly. She hadn’t seen this coming, and now she was at a loss for words.
“Harry… have you lost it? If you’re trying to get back at me, you don’t have to go this far.”
After a long pause, her voice came out laced with something close to pity.
She couldn’t quite keep the uncertainty out of her tone.
Was this all just some game to him?
Lure her in, then ditch her–payback in kind?
But what sane person would go to such ridiculous lengths for revenge?
Harry let out a quiet, amused sound, lowering his head to rub the bridge of his nose.
“Hannah.”
He said her name again, slow and deliberate.
A faint shiver ran through Hannah.
Then he continued, “Truth is, the day you turned me down, I already knew there was someone else.”
Harry’s words hit her like a thunderclap.

Her mind went blank, shattered into static. For what felt like forever, she couldn’t string a single thought together.
He’d known all along…
So why had he still willingly let her use him like that?
Back then, Hannah had just assumed Harry was blindly convinced she liked him, that he was chasing after some hopeful fantasy…
She’d figured once he realized she’d just been playing with his feelings, he’d end up hating her for it…
So the very next day after it dawned on her that Harry knew the truth, she’d vanished from campus completely, cutting him off for good.
“Do you even hear what you’re saying?”
