Knowing Xavier as well as she did, Isabella was deeply aware of how suspicious he could be. If she didn’t let Sander take Jason away now…
What if Xavier lost his temper and took it out on the child?
Just as she hesitated, the little boy in her arms suddenly let go. Seizing the moment she was distracted, he slid down to the floor and dashed straight toward Xavier.
Xavier felt a tug on his pant leg—the child had wrapped both arms around his thigh.
The gesture felt strangely familiar.
He looked down, and the moment he saw the boy’s face, a flicker of surprise crossed his eyes.
“You…”
Wasn’t this the quiet little boy he’d met at the therapy center a while back?
He still remembered–his name was Jason.
“Jason, is that you?”
After a brief pause, Xavier crouched down. His expression stayed stern, but when he spoke the boy’s name, a touch of gentleness softened his otherwise cool tone.
Truth was, ever since meeting this child, Xavier had caught himself thinking about him more than once.
He’d even caught himself wondering… what it might be like to have a son like him.
The boy in front of him hesitated briefly.
In fact, he wasn’t Jason–he was Skyler.
Not long ago, the twins had swapped clothes and identities.
Jason was shy and reserved, and Skyler was worried his brother might get pushed around. So today, he’d decided he–the more outgoing older brother–would take the lead in protecting their mom.
But he never expected Dad to show up too.
After a short silence, Skyler gave a few obedient nods.
So this was what it felt like to be recognized by Dad–warm, and a little thrilling.
No wonder Jason missed him so much.
Secing this, Isabella moved quickly to pull him back, but in the next moment Xavier lifted the boy into his
arms.

Chapter 129 Father and Son
Xavier held him, studying the small face carefully. He’d thought before that something about his eyes and brow looked familiar, and now…
Yes. They resembled Isabella’s.
“Xavier, let’s go home.”
Isabella brushed past Sander’s attempt to stop her and stepped back to Xavier’s side.
Her attention stayed fixed on the child, though she didn’t dare move too close or show too much concern.
She was afraid Xavier might notice something—that in a rash moment he might hurt her boy.
Even though she was puzzled about how Xavier knew Jason, she didn’t dare dwell on it or ask.
“Xavier, please give my young patient back to me,” Sander said as he stepped forward, ready to take the boy for Isabella.
But Xavier showed no intention of putting him down. He fixed a cool stare on Sander without a word.
The child in his arms–seeming to feel protected–turned his head and shot Sander a similarly cool look.
Isabella was frantic with worry, but watching them, she couldn’t help finding the scene almost comical. Xavier and the boy, one tall and one small, wore strikingly similar expressions.
To an outsider, they could almost pass for father and son.
”
Sander pressed on calmly, “Xavier, you’ve got this all wrong. Jason is just one of my patients. I was taking him out for lunch and invited Isabella along-”
“Do I look five years old to you?”
Xavier’s lips curved slightly, carrying a mix of disbelief and clear mockery.
The moment he saw the boy, everything clicked–Isabella’s odd behavior these past few days suddenly
made sense.
Her bond with this child was anything but ordinary.
But as for Sander…
Xavier’s eyes darkened. He didn’t let himself follow that train of thought. He didn’t dare to.
“Xavier, we can talk about this at home. Let Sander take him back for now.”
Steeling herself, Isabella stuck to her decision.
At the very least, with Sander, Jason might be upset–but he wouldn’t be harmed.
With Xavier, it was different.
