Chapter 135 Switched

Jason pressed his lips together in front of her. Unable to speak, he simply blinked his large, expressive

eyes.

Originally, Skyler had only intended to trade places with him temporarily. He never imagined their mom would actually leave with Skyler in tow.

Luckily, just in case, Skyler had slipped him the hotel address and some extra cash, even reminding him that the best way to handle Hannah was to either stay quietly in the room or pretend to be busy on a laptop.

Sure enough, Hannah seemed a bit distracted. For a moment, she simply thought the little guy in front of her was acting a little off.

But worry quickly overrode her suspicion.

She stepped forward and pulled Jason close, giving him a once–over before asking, “How come you smell… different?”

She caught a faint scent of an unfamiliar shower gel–nothing like the one she’d brought to the hotel.

Had the kid showered somewhere else?

Jason felt a wave of guilt and didn’t dare look up at Hannah.

Just then, a low buzz came from Jason’s pocket.

His phone was vibrating.

Suddenly alert, Hannah reached into his pants pocket before Jason could react and pulled the phone out, stepping back.

Jason hurried after her, his small face tense with worry, looking as if he might burst into tears at any

second.

This was the phone Skyler had left him so they could stay in touch!

Hannah glanced down and saw a text notification from Isabella.

But if Isabella needed to reach her, why wouldn’t she just call?

Hannah opened the message immediately. It was written in Skyler’s unmistakable tone. “Hey Jason! How’s it going over there? Did Hannah notice anything weird? I might have to stick with Mommy for a few more days.”

Reading those words, Hannah felt like the floor had dropped out from under her. Her mind went blank for a second.

She turned to look at the quiet child behind her–lips pressed together, eyes glistening–and finally understood.

“Jason?” Hannah said softly, cupping his face gently to get a better look. “You’re Jason, aren’t you?”

But before his tears could even well up properly, Hannah had already melted.

She fumbled to comfort him, and only when his teary expression began to soften did she let herself relax a little.

Hannah quickly typed a reply to Skyler, “What in the world are you doing, you little troublemaker???”

Skyler was using Isabella’s phone to text.

Isabella, exhausted from the day, had fallen asleep earlier while soothing him, completely unaware.

Skyler had waited until she was out, then carefully slipped out of bed, grabbed her phone from the nightstand, and moved to the other side of the room.

He remembered his mom’s passcode perfectly.

Seeing Hannah’s reply, he knew the jig was up.

Honestly, he’d expected it. Even if Hannah wasn’t the most observant, Jason’s silence was bound to raise suspicions sooner or later.

“We’re just swapping for a few days, Aunt Hannah. Don’t stress–Mom has no idea.”

“Skyler! What’s your plan here? I’m telling you, switch back. Now.”
