But the child’s mother was Xavier’s wife… so how could his father possibly still be…
A stunned silence fell over the room. No one dared to speak, the air growing thick and heavy.
It wasn’t until Isabella finished explaining how Jason had called out “Xavier” that the specialists managed to clear their throats, shifting awkwardly in their seats.
“Well… that would explain it.”
“Right, of course. A child needs a father figure.”
“Mr. Moore does seem like he’d be a natural with kids…”
Their words came out hesitant, each of them unsure whether they should even continue down this line of thought.
Under Xavier’s cold, penetrating gaze, the most senior specialist finally gathered the courage to speak softly.
“The path forward is clearer now. Since the child is strongly craving a father’s presence… it would be best for the father to be involved in the speech therapy sessions.”
He had no idea if this was the right thing to suggest.
Throughout his explanation, he watched Xavier’s face closely, his stomach tied in knots.
Who was Xavier Moore?
A man whose mood swings could send ripples through the corporate world–let alone their small therapy center.
Asking him to help with another man’s child… After saying it, the specialist felt like he’d just signed his own professional death warrant.
Sure enough, Xavier didn’t respond immediately.
But his expression was unreadable–detached, giving nothing away.
“Isn’t there any other option?”
Not caring about Xavier’s presence, Isabella jumped in.

If the only solution was for Xavier to help Jason with his therapy… how would she ever finalize the divorce?
Even if Xavier was in a generous mood now and not holding it against her, he could never genuinely care for her son…
No man could accept something like this.
The specialists exchanged uneasy glances, each hoping the other would answer.
They, too, wished there was another way–anything to avoid this overwhelming pressure.
“How long would these sessions take each day?”
Xavier’s voice cut through the tension, deep and emotionless.
One specialist replied cautiously, “Not too long–about an hour should be enough… but consistency is key. Daily sessions, without breaks, would be ideal for gradual progress.”
“Hmm.” Xavier seemed to consider it. “I’m only available in the evenings. Would that work?”
It took a moment for his meaning to sink in.
Isabella stared at him, completely caught off guard. Even Skyler, who had been swinging his little legs, went perfectly still.
Just last night, Skyler had realized that his dad still hadn’t seen the email–so he didn’t know they were biologically related.
Maybe it was for the best… After how Daddy had treated Mommy, Skyler wasn’t sure he wanted him around anyway.
But even though Jason wasn’t his own son, Daddy was still willing to help…
Maybe he wasn’t entirely cold toward Mommy after all…
“Yes! Absolutely, that works perfectly!”
After a brief pause, the specialists snapped back to attention and quickly agreed.
When Xavier asked if a time worked for you, you didn’t question it–you made it work.
“Then we’ll start tomorrow.”
With that, Xavier signaled that the meeting was over.

Instantly, the room felt lighter, as if everyone could finally breathe again.
“Of course, Mr. Moore. You can count on us.”
“But this arrangement… It should stay between us.”
“Understood.”
Xavier’s tone turned noticeably cooler, sending a subtle chill through the room.
His meaning was clear to everyone there.

Who would have thought a man as intimidating as Xavier would go this far for a woman?
It obviously wasn’t his child, yet he cared enough to step in–it could only be for the child’s mother, right?
But they knew better than to voice that thought aloud. One by one, they filed out quietly, feeling like they’d just brushed shoulders with someone from another world.
In just a few sentences, Xavier had settled Jason’s treatment plan. But Isabella, the boy’s actual mother, remained in a daze long after the specialists had left.
“Stay home with him today.”
Without another word, Xavier turned and walked away.
Isabella watched him go, her emotions in turmoil.
