Linda’s voice trembled, choked with tears. “If you could just stay with Xavier and stop hurting him… I swear I’ll never come anywhere near you again.”
Isabella almost laughed out loud.
She knew perfectly well this sudden show of vulnerability wasn’t meant for her benefit–if anything, while playing the victim, Linda was subtly suggesting Isabella was the one being dishonest.
If Isabella agreed, it would sound like she admitted to playing games with Xavier. If she refused, she’d only help Linda provoke him further.
But the whole act felt so cheap–Isabella couldn’t even bring herself to take it seriously.
“Break his heart?” she replied coolly. “You need to have a heart to be broken. A man who’d stoop so low with you was already rotten to the core. Don’t
things like that–you’re just making him look worse. I doubt Xavier would thank you for it if he heard.”
As she finished speaking, Isabella glanced up and saw the man himself stepping out of the bathroom.
Xavier stood there with water still glistening on his torso, a towel wrapped loosely around his waist. His hair was damp, clinging to the sides of his face, while droplets trailed down his neck and over the well–defined lines of his chest.
A chill seemed to radiate from him–his presence was tense, intimidating. But Isabella didn’t care how angry he looked. If anything, she’d said it all intentionally.
“Xavier…” Linda heard movement behind her and spun around.
When she saw Xavier’s stormy eyes fixed on Isabella, she couldn’t quite hide the flicker of satisfaction in her own.
“What are you doing here?” he demanded, his voice low.
But instead of addressing Linda, he walked right past her and stopped in front of Isabella.
His expression was dark, as though her presence here genuinely displeased him.
And this was the same man who’d called her earlier, accusing her of abandoning him?
She’d been a fool to take his drunken words seriously.
“You’re the one who called,” Isabella said, her tone laced with scorn. Her eyes glistened faintly as she tilted her head, sarcasm dripping from every word. “You said if I didn’t come get you, you weren’t leaving.”
Xavier fell silent, fragments of memory returning vaguely.
Had I really said that?

But guess no good deed goes unpunished,” she went on, voice sharp. “Next time you get drunk and end up rolling around with someone, try to remember not to call me with sweet talk. It really doesn’t suit your whole… image.”
With that, her hand trembled slightly before she pulled out her phone, opened the camera, and slowly panned from Linda to Xavier.
The screen captured the disarray of the hotel room clothes scattered, sheets tangled–along with both of them looking thoroughly disheveled.
Linda panicked. “Isabella, what are you doing?”
“What does it look like? Documenting the scene of the crime.”
Isabella saved the video and slipped her phone away.
“You bitch! That’s slander!” Linda shouted, now truly terrified.
If Isabella shared that footage…
Both Xavier and the Moore family would face serious backlash. Her own father would kill her.
Isabella and Xavier were legally married. The scandal alone would ruin Linda completely.
The more she thought about it, the more frantic she became. She scrambled up to grab Isabella’s phone, but before her fingers could even brush Isabella’s arm, a strong hand caught her wrist.
Xavier pulled her away from Isabella and shoved her hard toward the floor.
“Who said you could speak to her like that?” His voice was icy, lethal. “If you value your life, get out. Now.”
Linda stared at him in disbelief. Isabella had just insulted him openly, yet all his fury was directed at her?
“Xavier… I was only trying to explain to Isabella… We didn’t even do anything…”
Tears streamed down Linda’s delicate face, her voice shaking.
Watching her perform such a pitiful act almost made Isabella feel sorry for her.
“We?” Xavier cut in, his tone like a blade. “You know exactly what you did. You don’t get to use that word.”
His words were ruthless, enough to break anyone.
Isabella studied him. Xavier wasn’t pretending–he never bothered with pretense.
His disgust for Linda was palpable, genuine.
“Xavier, please…”
