The moment Xavier’s focus wavered, Isabella had already pushed him to sit down. Her eyes dropped briefly to the zipper of his suit pants, and she swallowed almost imperceptibly.
That part of him was clearly not cooperating.
“You should cool down with the water… I’ll get you a fresh towel,” she said, meaning to assist, but her hand shifted course mid–reach, and she simply handed him the towel instead.
“That won’t help.”
Xavier spoke through gritted teeth, frustration tightening his voice.
He’d just spent what felt like forever under ice–cold water–what good was a towel now?
“Sometimes aggressive methods just amplify the reaction. Targeted relief works better.”
The words left Isabella’s mouth before she could reconsider–a reflex drawn from years of medical training. Even with substances like this, the principle held.
“It’s too sensitive right now… I can’t really handle it.”
Xavier watched her avoid looking directly at him, as if even a glance was too much. Despite the discomfort, he felt a faint, ironic amusement.
“Maybe you could help me?”
He kept his tone low, carefully controlling his breath.
Isabella hesitated, then moved closer, eyes half–shut. “Then look away.”
“I’m not looking,” Xavier muttered coolly, turning his head aside with a mix of annoyance and resignation.
Then he felt the slight tug of his zipper being eased down.
Her breath brushed against him, cool yet somehow stirring–like a breeze fanning embers into flame.
Before the towel in her hand could make contact, Xavier caught her wrist.
“You… should probably stop.”
Was she seriously trying to help like this?
Isabella’s face burned. She realized it too—her approach was having the opposite effect.
He seemed even more affected now.

Flustered, she slipped her hand free and immediately turned away.

“Maybe you should… take care of it yourself. Once or twice might ease the tension. I’ll wait outside. Call if you need anything.”
“Isabella!”
Xavier’s expression darkened. How could she say something like that so casually?
And even if he were to… he didn’t need it spelled out so bluntly!
It was practically an invitation to do it right here in front of her.
But before he could respond, Isabella hurried out, leaving her words hanging in the air.
Even after closing the door, her cheeks kept growing warmer.
Isabella quickly patted her face, then pulled out her phone to check her reflection. She looked disheveled–flushed and uneasy.
She hadn’t been outside more than a minute when the door opened again. Xavier emerged fully dressed, though his steps were slightly unsteady.
“You’re… finished already?”
The question left her lips before she could think.
Xavier’s gaze turned stormy.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“No–1 didn’t mean it like that…”
Isabella realized she might have hit a nerve and forced a small, conciliatory smile. “I just meant, given the circumstances… it’s okay if it was quick-
“You should have a little faith in-”
Her attempt at reassurance was cut short by the murderous look in Xavier’s eyes.
Isabella felt her own warmth drain away instantly.
His body temperature was still high, but the chill radiating from him could have frozen the entire room.
“I–I wasn’t implying anything! Don’t read into it!”
Xavier felt like the drug’s grip was fading—not because of his endurance, but because Isabella had annoyed it right
out of him.

It’s Wearing off?” Isabella blinked. “You pushed through?”

Judging by his appearance, he did seem more composed than before. Earker, he could barely stand.
Looking at her seemingly innocent expression, Xavier regretted not just pinning her to the bed earlier.
He gripped Isabella’s shoulders, his voice rough but controlled, “I’m still not completely steady. Take me home.”
And just like that, he was back to giving orders.
Isabella pressed her lips together, but considering Xavier had kept his word–hadn’t laid a hand on her even in his compromised state–she let it go for now.
She took his arm, and they made their way slowly toward the elevator.
