Amelia was well aware of the Moore family’s influence. Linda had once mentioned that Xavier’s grandfather was not someone to be crossed lightly.

Was the family really going to strong–arm their way into this mess about Isabella having a child without Xavier’s knowledge?

“Are you finished staring? Go tell him now.”

John’s impatient tone snapped her back to the present.

She slipped the ID into her pocket and forced a polite smile. “I’ll deliver the message right away. But please no shouting in the office. Would you mind waiting in the lounge downstairs? I can have some coffee brought up for

you.”

Her manner was courteous, but it only seemed to irritate John further. “Coffee? I don’t have time for that.”

Teresa had given him an urgent task, and he was nowhere near completing it. Sitting around waiting wasn’t an option.

“If you stay here, I can’t explain the situation to the team. And if this causes a scene, it’ll only make it harder for Mr. Moore to leave with you quickly.”

Amelia kept her voice calm, but her words left no room for negotiation.

John glanced toward the conference room–only a short walk away–and finally relented. “Fine. I’ll wait downstairs. But tell him now.”

Without waiting for an escort, he turned and headed toward the elevators.

Once he was gone, Amelia signaled for the onlookers to disperse. “I’ll handle this. Everyone, please return to your work.”

Quite a few employees had gathered, curious about the commotion. Amelia offered them a reassuring smile.

“Everything’s under control. Let’s all get back to what we were doing.”

Though she’d only been in the executive secretary role for a short time, Amelia had already gained a reputation for handling tense situations with poise.

Office gossip had it that she was actually a close friend of Xavier’s wife–and that her earlier internship had simply been a way for Isabella to keep tabs on Xavier discreetly.

After all, wasn’t that why Linda and her circle were no longer around?

Rumor had that Isabella had her husband wrapped around her finger, and Xavier spoiled her endlessly.

She walked toward the conference room but paused, changing direction back to her own desk instead.

She reached for the phone. One call to security downstairs, and the man would be escorted out–likely leaving with the impression that Xavier simply refused to see him.

Just as her fingers touched the receiver, someone rushed over. “Amelia-!”

Meanwhile, John stepped out of the elevator on the ground floor.

He pulled out his phone to text Teresa for an update. When no reply came, his anxiety tightened.

Aside from Teresa, he had no love for the Moore family–especially not Wilson.

That guy was all arrogance, always pushing Teresa around.

Even if coming here cost him his job–or worse–John didn’t care. He’d do anything for Teresa.

She had saved his life. When he was seventeen, his family fell apart. He’d been sick, broke, and thrown out of the hospital, left to die on the streets.

Teresa was the one who found him, brought him into the Moore household, and looked out for him for six straight

years.

John had decided long ago: Teresa meant everything to him. Whatever she needed, he’d move heaven and earth to make it happen.

If Xavier wouldn’t go help her, then he’d do it himself.

“Excuse me-”

Distracted, John bumped into someone stepping out of the adjacent elevator.

The other man began to apologize, but John looked up and recognition flashed across his face. “Jacob!”

“Huh?” Jacob was balancing two large gift bags in his arms. He frowned, studying the stranger. “Do I know you?” Xavier had been in meetings all day, and these “care packages” were supposed to have been delivered earlier. Jacob had gotten held up and ended up fetching them himself.

“I’m Ms. Moore’s personal security. Mrs. Moore is in danger. Only Xavier can get her out of it.”

John grabbed Jacob by the arm, his voice low and urgent.

He didn’t get it–Teresa said Xavier would come, but he’d been waiting forever and hadn’t even caught a glimpse of him.
