His voice was firm, almost self–righteous, as if he were putting in all the effort while she was intentionally trying to undermine the process.
Before Isabella could reply, Skyler grew restless.
Dad is picking on Mom again.
He squirmed, trying to pry Xavier’s hand away, but the man easily pulled him back, holding both of the boy’s small hands firmly in one of his own.
“See?” Xavier’s tone turned chilly. “Interrupting a session doesn’t just waste my time–it wastes everyone’s.”
“Xavier, would you stop twisting things? I was just bringing snacks and drinks to be nice, and suddenly I’m the one holding things up?” D
Besides, with the way he was behaving, how could she not check on her own son? She couldn’t shake the worry that he might be too rough with him.
Isabella felt her temper rising but bit back the words she might later regret.
“Mrs. Moore, there’s no need to worry,” one of the specialists spoke up, setting down the untouched coffee. “Jason is very attached to you. Letting him work independently will improve the effectiveness of the exercises.”
“That’s right,” another added. “Earlier, he wasn’t fully cooperating. It took some effort from Mr. Moore to help him settle in and
focus.”
The specialists had been there
himself this kind of repetitive half an hour without a break. They hadn’t expected Xavier to stay through the entire session
“Mmph!”
training was tough even for parents to endure.
Seeing his mother being spoken to like that, Skyler got so upset that he sank his teeth into Xavier’s forearm.
Even through the fabric of the shirt, the bite was sharp and strong.
How dare you talk to Mommy like that.
Bad Dad!
Xavier’s expression shifted. He started to pull the boy back by the collar but stopped, not wanting to hurt him, and let go first.
“Jason!”
Isabella’s face fell. All her frustration toward Xavier vanished the moment she saw how worked up her son had become.
Maybe Xavier had a point–maybe she was coddling him too much, and it was getting in the way.
She noticed small spots of red blooming on Xavier’s sleeve and felt a pang of alarm, but before she could step closer, he said flatly, “You should go.
“Go.”

As she left the living room, the house staff watched with concern. Things between Jason and Xavier seemed so strained–what if something went wrong?
“Mrs. Moore,” one of the maids offered gently once Isabella was seated in the den, “we can check on them a little later. Try not to worry too much.”
But Isabella just shook her head, lost in thought.
He’d been bitten hard enough to draw blood, and he hadn’t even flinched….
Xavier could be harsh, but he wasn’t the type to hurt a child.
What others didn’t realize was that the more seriously Xavier took something, the more demanding he became.
She’d learned that a long time ago. Back when she first worked as his assistant, he’d criticize her relentlessly over the smallest oversight.
Truth be told, today he’d actually held back.
But this was her son–a child who had nothing to do with him…
Was this just another way for him to control her?
Two hours later, the specialized session ended.
The moment the living room door opened, Isabella hurried over. Skyler rushed out first and launched himself into her arms.
His face was flushed, his big eyes looking up at her with a wounded expression.
“Look at that pout,” Isabella teased softly, running a hand through his hair. You could hang a pot right off it.”
If he had enough energy to run out wanting hugs, then maybe the one who’d really had a tough time was someone else.
