Chapter 191 Swapping Places
The specialist had noticed that the rapport between them that day didn’t seem as strong as it had been before.

Since the father–son dynamic was crucial to making progress with Jason’s treatment, the specialist quietly suggested to Isabella that she try to help them reconnect.
But bringing them closer…
Skyler’s small face immediately turned serious when he heard that question.
He locked up at Isabella and gave a few honest nods.
Isabel a felt a slight weight in her chest. “How come? I thought you liked spending time with him. Has he been unkind to you lately?”
Skyler shook his head, his long lashes drifting downward
He thought it over for a moment, then pulled out his phone, typed something, and held it up for Isabella to see.
“I don’t want a daddy who’s mean to mommy.”
Isabella’s heart melted a little. She leaned in and kissed Skyler’s cheek softly.
“Once the treatment is over, we’ll leave here, okay?” she whispered near his ear.
Skyler almost shook his head, but he held back. He knew Jason really did need the help–and he didn’t want to be selfish and take that chance away from his mom or from Jason.
After a quiet moment, he finally gave a slow, reluctant nod.

Meanwhile, Hannah had left the hotel late that night with Jason in tow.
She still hadn’t been able to reach Skyler, and waiting any longer was driving her crazy–even if nothing was really wrong, the not knowing was too much.
Hannah knew Xavier’s address. Her plan was to go there straight with Jason and try to trade him for Skyler.

In the car, she went over the steps with Jason, who was buckled in the back seat, keeping her tone gentle but firm.
She’d knock on the door, Jason would step into view, and since the staff had seen Skyler before, they’d hopefully let him inside.
Once he was in, Hannah would text Skyler and tell him to find a way out.
Skyler was clever in tight spots. Once he knew Jason was inside, he’d have no choice but to slip away.
Jason sat with his arms wrapped around himself, his small brow furrowed with nerves. He gave a quiet nod.
He was going to his dad’s house to swap places with his brother. He was so anxious he felt like crying, but he promised himself he’d be brave. No tears.

Hannah took a steadying breath. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

She pulled into the gated community and parked along the curb just outside the property. That’s when she spotted a car that looked way too familiar.
Wasn’t that… Harry’s car?
Maybe her eyes were playing tricks on her.

Inside the villa, Harry was working to bring Xavier’s fever down. Jacob stood nearby, his expression tense.
Ever since Xavier had finished that joint session with the boy, his temperature had spiked.
Jacob had reacted quickly, discreetly calling Harry over.
Xavier didn’t want Isabella to find out–she’d already gone upstairs to rest with the little one.
“Dr. Ashford, is he going to be all right?”
After Harry had started the IV and was quietly organizing his supplies, Jacob stepped closer to ask.
Harry sighed softly. “Not ideal. The wound’s infected, and the fever’s high. If it doesn’t break by morning, recovery could take longer. He shouldn’t be working through this, and he really needs to keep his stress levels low.”
When Xavier had checked himself out of the hospital, Harry had warned him about pushing too hard.
But Xavier had made it clear he wasn’t staying, so Harry had little/choice but to check in daily.
Given what Isabella had mentioned earlier, Harry knew Xavier was also carrying some unresolved emotional strain–enough to take a physical toll.
“I’ve redressed the wound for tonight. I’ve left pre–measured meds and instructions on the side table.”
Harry kept his voice low, not wanting to disturb Xavier, who had finally drifted into a restless sleep.
Jacob nodded and quietly walked Harry toward the bedroom door.
They were still on the second floor when the doorbell rang downstairs.
“Who visits this late?” Harry remarked under his breath. Jacob looked just as surprised.
Very few people even knew Xavier lived here. A late–night visitor made no sense.
Isabella’s room was dark too–she and the boy were likely already asleep.
Outside the front gate stood a very small, very nervous Jason.
Hannah had rung the bell and ducked to the side. She’d already sent Skyler a firm text explaining the plan, and worried he might sleep through it, she’d even tried calling.
When the call went straight to decline, Hannah quickly powered off her phone.
