Each of the three jewelry sets was a priceless collector’s treasure, the kind that couldn’t simply be bought with money.
“Isabella, consider this both an apology for last time and a token of appreciation for giving Xavier a son. Feel free to choose whichever set you prefer.”
Stanley’s lips curved into a warm smile, his tone deliberately gentle, yet the underlying condescension remained hard to ignore.
“Thank you, but I won’t be needing them.”
Isabella barely glanced at the pieces before politely declining.

A flicker of surprise passed over Stanley’s face. “Do you have any idea what these are worth? Even a single piece here is more valuable than anything you’ve likely ever seen-”
“This set was taken from the imperial collection during the last dynasty’s fall and eventually made its way overseas. The yellow diamond suite is the famous auction piece, originally from the 18th–century royal collection. As for these pearls…” Isabella moved slowly along the display, briefly explaining the history of each. When she reached the final set, she paused. “They’re actually reproductions.”
She had grown up seeing that exact pearl set in her family’s display case.
It once belonged to the queen of Marvella, but after the necklace broke and a pearl was lost, it was sold at auction.
Only one authentic set existed–her own grandfather had used his connections in Marvella to secure it from the royal family at a tremendous price.
Stanley had an eye for rare artifacts, much like his taste for power.
But he wasn’t one to spend his own fortune on collecting; most of his pieces were high–profile gifts.
For a gifted collection to include only one replica was actually somewhat impressive.
Stanley’s expression tightened when he heard her remarks.
Isabella had listed the origins of the jewelry without hesitation, as though he’d’un anger was her final comment.
“Are you suggesting I came here to offer you a counterfeit?”
It took him a moment to force the words through clenched teeth.

Isabella’s statement sent a chill through the room. Behind her, Jacob felt his heart pound–things were already tense enough without her provoking Stanley further.
“Isabella, if you’re not interested, just say so. There’s no need to put on a show. Even if you’ve heard of these pieces, no expert could verify their authenticity just by looking.”
Teresa’s voice was icy.
Isabella offered a faint smile. “I’m sure you wouldn’t deliberately deceive me. But someone out there might have been bald enough to deceive you.”

She reached out and picked up the pearl necklace.
One of Stanley’s attendants moved to intervene, but Stanley stopped him. “Let her continue.”
“This necklace originally contained ninety pearls. If it were a replica, the count would be off
Isabella proceeded to count the pearls aloud in front of everyone. Sure enough, there were ninety.
A trace of relief crossed Stanley’s face, and he let out a dismissive sound. “So it is ninety.”
“It is ninety,” Isabella agreed calmly as she placed the necklace back into its case.
“Isabella, are you toying with us?” Teresa spoke up again, defending Stanley.

Isabel a pulled out her phone and began tapping the screen as she went on: “That’s precisely what makes it wrong–because it’s ninety.
“This necklace was once owned by the queen of Marvella, who cherished it deeply. It only went to auction because she lost one of the pearls.
“Which means the genuine necklace should have only eighty–nine pearls.”
Isabella explained slowly, her tone measured and convincing.
Everyone’s eyes drifted back to the pearls.
Even Teresa glanced uncertainly at Stanley.
The slight smile that had begun to form on Stanley’s lips froze.
Isabella held her phone toward him.
“This piece is quite well–documented. The original pearl count is recorded, though the loss wasn’t widely publicized.
“However, the queen did wear it one last time for a public appearance.
“The footage is old, but it’s clear enough. If you count carefully, you’ll see there are exactly eighty–nine pearls.”
