Chapter 203 A Desperate Stand
Chapter 203 A Desperate Stand
“Mrs. Moore, what’s happening?” Jacob asked urgently the moment Isabella stepped outside.

“Stanley is staying,” Isabella replied coldly, then turned to him. “What about those men Xavier used to keep around? Call them in and have Stanley removed.”
“Well…” Jacob hesitated. Even if Xavier’s old security detalt showed up, with Stanley digging in his heels and no direct orders from Xavier himself, they wouldn’t be able to just physically escort Stanley off the property.
“Get them here now,” Isabella said firmly, her mind made up.
Gritting his teeth, Jacob nodded. Given the circumstances, Xavier likely wouldn’t take Stanley’s side anyway.
As Jacob moved off to make the call, Isabella walked to a quiet corner and dialed her grandfather.
The last time she’d tried calling him, the line had cut off and he never called back-clearly Natalie had interfered again. But how did Natalie even have access to her grandfather’s phone?
The call connected after a few rings, and once again, it was Natalie’s voice that answered. “Hello?”
“It’s me. Why are you answering Grandfather’s phone?” Isabella’s tone was sharp, edged with warning.
Natalie paused briefly, then let out a light laugh. “Oh, Isabella. I thought after taking the money you’d run off somewhere and disappeared for good.”
“Put Grandfather on the phone,” Isabella demanded, unwilling to waste another word on her.
“Are you serious? If Grandfather wanted to talk to you, he wouldn’t have had me pick up,” Natalie replied, her laughter casual and full of smug confidence.
“Natalie, are you trying to get yourself killed?” Isabella let out a cold, humorless laugh. “My father is the Carter family heir. I came back under Grandfather’s instructions. If anything goes wrong because of your games, your whole branch of the family will pay for
it.”
Before she could finish, another wave of unrestrained laughter came through the receiver.
Just as Isabella was about to hang up, Natalie finally caught her breath and spoke again. “Isabella, you don’t actually still believe you’re the beloved little princess everyone makes you out to be, just because your dad is Grandfather’s favorite? Let me break it to you-Grandfather never planned on bringing you back once he sent you overseas. Your father gave up on you for the family’s sake a long time ago. You’re just a pathetic little thing nobody wants.”
With that, the line went dead.
A heavy weight settled in Isabella’s chest. She didn’t believe a word Natalie had said, of course.
Reluctantly, she tried calling her father.
It was the first time in years she had reached out to him on her own, but the call wouldn’t go through..
After three attempts, a cold dread began to creep into her heart.
Just then, Jacob returned, his expression grim. He stepped closer and lowered his voice. “Mrs. Moore, things aren’t looking good.

Wilson took his own life earlier today. The team we called never made it back-they were taken in for questioning as soon as they
showed up.”
Stanley had planned his arrival carefully….
Isabella bit her lip and stayed silent.
Seeing her expression, Jacob tried to reassure her. “Here at the house, I doubt Stanley would dare to actually harm you or Jason.”
Right then, Isabella’s phone buzzed-an incoming call from an unknown number.
After a moment’s hesitation, she answered.
Forty minutes later, the house staff’s belongings were packed and tossed unceremoniously out the front door.
Almost immediately, Stanley’s men moved in, grabbing the maids by their arms and shoving them toward the exit.
Isabella and Jacob rushed over to intervene.
“Stop this right now!”
Seeing Isabella step in front of the maids protectively, Stanley’s men hesitated slightly.
But their leader just smirked, unimpressed. “You should head back inside, Mrs. Moore. These are Mr. Stanley Moore’s orders. If you get hurt causing a scene, we’ll be the ones he blames.”
By now, Stanley had already settled in upstairs. Using his afternoon rest as an excuse, he had closed himself off in one of the
bedrooms.
Some of his men stood guard outside the room, while others carried out his instructions to reorganize the household operations.
On the surface, Stanley wasn’t directly confronting Isabella, but his men understood clearly-Stanley was here to establish control.
“If you know he’d blame you, then don’t overstep with me. You’re done here. Get off this property now!”
Isabella raised her voice, but it only drew a round of mocking chuckles. The man in front of her snorted loudly.
“Mrs. Moore, with such a pretty and delicate face, I wouldn’t have guessed you had such a commanding tone,” he said, stepping uncomfortably close with his arms crossed and chest puffed out. “But we’re just following orders. Why make things harder for everyone?”
As the man encroached on her personal space, his posture openly provocative, Jacob immediately stepped between them and held out a hand to block him.
“This is Mr. Moore’s home. Even Mr. Stanley Moore has no authority to make unilateral decisions here. Lay a hand on anyone, and you’ll regret it.”
“Who let this mutt speak?” the man retorted arrogantly, then suddenly grabbed Jacob’s outstretched arm.
Jacob was no match for the other man’s raw strength. He strained with everything he had, but after only a few seconds of struggle. he began to falter. Sweat beaded heavily on his forehead, his face turning pale.
A faint, unsettling sound came from Jacob’s arm as the man twisted it backward at an unnatural angle.

The maids began pleading in panic, their voices overlapping-when suddenly the man across from Jacob let out a sharp cry of his own, doubling over and clutching his lower abdomen in agony.
