“Everyone you hired for the house is in their twenties. How is someone that young supposed to know how to properly care for a child? Starting today, we’re replacing all of them. I’ll arrange for more experienced people to look after my great-grandson.”

Stanley’s tone left no room for discussion.

Hearing this, the maids immediately grew anxious and began pleading.

“We’ll be extra careful from now on, we promise!”

“Don’t worry,” Stanley replied evenly. “You’ll still have jobs for the remainder of your contracts. It’ll just be somewhere else.”

His wording was deliberate.

The Moore family was extensive and well-connected. “Somewhere else” could mean Moore Manor, or perhaps one of the other family households.

There were eleven maids in total-more than Isabella really needed to run the household she shared with Xavier. She had kept them all because she knew they preferred to stay together.

If she handed them over now, Stanley wouldn’t treat them kindly.

Isabella felt a knot tighten in her stomach. Since Stanley couldn’t force her directly, he was using the staff as leverage.

“I’m used to the way they handle things, and Jason is comfortable with them too. So thank you, but I’ll have to pass.”

Her polite refusal didn’t sway Stanley.

He continued calmly, “Now that you’re part of the Moore family, it’s important to respect your elders. Not just in small matters like this, but also with my great-grandson’s new name and everything moving forward. We’ll be making some adjustments.”

Isabella let out a short, humorless laugh. Her patience was wearing thin.

“Mr. Moore, you’re nearly eighty, aren’t you?”

“That’s right,” Stanley confirmed smoothly. “At the end of the month, l’il be hosting a birthday celebration where i’ll formally introduce my great-grandson to the family. So from here on out, everything needs to go smoothly.”

Isabella offered a faint, tight smile. “Mr. Moore, you’re someone the whole Moore family looks up to. There’s really no need for you to trouble yourself with the details of our lives. Whether it’s about Jason or anything to do with Xavier and me, we can manage just

fine.”

At his age, meddling to this extent-it was no wonder the Moore family wasn’t what it used to be

“Other matters I don’t involve myself in. But I watched Xavier grow up. When it comes to his family, those decisions will always come through me.”

Stanley had clearly caught the slight edge in her words, but his expression remained unreadable as he spoke, sidestepping a direct reply.

“Oh, and one more thing,” Stanley added after taking a slow sip of water. “Starting today, I’ll be staying here for a while.”

“What?” Isabella couldn’t help herself-her hand came down lightly on the table.

Stanley went on, his tone unchanging. “For my great-grandson’s safety, I’ve brought along several men. Since I have the time, I might as well make myself useful bere.”

“Useful, or keeping watch?” Isabella’s laugh was cold as she laid it out plainly. “The only reason I’m being polite is out of respect for you as Xavier’s grandfather. Ever since you laid hands on me and Jason that last time, we haven’t been on family terms. If you truly want to make things right, please stop showing up here uninvited.”

“I respect a mother’s right to protect her child. But as Xavier’s grandfather, I have every right to stay.”

Stanley’s point left Isabella with little ground to stand on.

It was true-Stanley was the kind of man who didn’t back down until he got his way. If she refused him now, he’d only find another way to pressure her.

Even Teresa looked caught off guard. Stanley hadn’t mentioned anything about staying when they’d arrived.

Isabella knew arguing further would be pointless.

She clenched her fists, her gaze locked on Stanley’s deliberately calm, almost provocative expression. Emotions roiled inside her.

If she did something drastic to force him out, she’d only end up looking like the difficult one.

But if she let him stay, there would be no peace-not for her, and not for Jason.

The maids looked on the verge of tears as they listened.

After finishing his meal, Stanley turned to Teresa. “Go prepare a room for me. Downstairs is fine-the guest room next to my great- grandson’s.”

“The guest room? Isn’t that a bit… plain?” Teresa asked softly.

“I’m an old man, I don’t need anything fancy,” Stanley replied. “As long as I’m close to my great-grandson, nothing else matters.

When Teresa hesitated, Stanley’s expression cooled. “Well? Go on.”

With no other choice, Teresa quietly left the dining room.

Alone with Isabella now, Stanley gave her a knowing, faintly smug smile. “Isabella, I don’t care who you are. As long as that child carries Moore blood, you can be sure everything this family has will eventually go to Xavier and his son. But if you’ve been dishonest with me…”

He let the sentence hang, unfinished.

A cold shiver ran through Isabella.

She shot him a hard, icy stare, set her silverware down with a sharp clink, and without another word, walked out of the dining

room.

Outside, Jacob watched helplessly as Stanley’s men continued carrying items into the house and Teresa instructed the maids to prepare the guest room.

He wanted to step in, but didn’t even know where to start.
