“Say it!”

Urged by Isabella, the specialist snapped back to attention. “Right-Mr. Moore, using punishment or force really isn’t the way to go with children, especially with a boy as sensitive as your son…”

Before he could finish, a loud crash came from inside the room-the sound of something shattering.

The specialist fell silent immediately.

Isabella’s face flushed with worry. “Keep going!”

The specialists exchanged looks, then shook their heads firmly, as if worried that saying anything more might turn the man inside’s anger toward them instead of the child.

Crossing Xavier was not a risk any of them was willing to take.

Feeling helpless, Isabella knocked on the door again, but there was no response. She quickly told one of the housemaids to go find a key.

Without waiting, she hurried into Xavier’s bedroom.

The bedroom balcony connected to the study balcony, though there was a noticeable gap between them.

She eyed the distance. One good step might just be enough to make it across.

For Jason’s sake…

Gathering her nerve, Isabella stepped from the bedroom balcony over to the study side.

The moment she landed, her heart was racing.

It was a drop of several yards, and she’d never been great with heights.

The study balcony was sealed off by floortoceiling windows, locked from the inside. She could only peer through the glass to see what was happening.

What she saw left her stunned. The two inside were…

Getting along perfectly, playing a game.

Actually playing a game.

From her spot, she could clearly see Xavier and Skyler each holding a lightsensing toy gun, aiming at moving targets on the opposite wall.

But she didn’t recall Xavier ever having something like that in his room.

While Isabella was still taking it in, another electronic “shot” sounded through the glass. Then she watched her little boy lower his head quietly and follow Xavier out of the room.

Out of the… room?

Isabella blinked. That was it? Over just like that?

When Xavier and Skyler walked into the hallway, the maids and specialists stared at them as if surveying a crime scene-every face tense with worry.

But the disaster they’d all imagined hadn’t happened at all.

Skyler stood there perfectly fine, not a hair out of place.

And Skyler’s hand was tucked in Xavier’s. He wasn’t resisting, so obedient he seemed like a completely different child from before.

Except for the slight pout still lingering on his small face.

“Mr. Moore, you… you’re all right?” One of the maids managed after a hesitant pause, correcting herself under the man’s icy gaze.

“What do you think?”

Xavier’s brow furrowed slightly, and the maid quickly shook her head. “You’re fine.”

Just then, another maid gasped softly. “Oh no-Mrs. Moore, she’s…”

“What about her?”

At those words, Xavier’s chest tightened.

The maid pointed urgently toward the bedroom. “Mrs. Moore went from the bedroom balcony to try and reach you…”

Before she could finish, Xavier was already striding toward the bedroom.

At that moment, Isabella was carefully trying to make her way back the same route.

How strange…

The gap had looked manageable earlier, but now, as she measured it with her own steps, it suddenly seemed impossible to cross.

Her cheeks flushed with frustration.

She’d tried calling for the maids, but the room was too large and she was out on the balcony- her voice didn’t carry.

And the study’s balcony glass was soundproof anyway…

Fine. One more try.

Steeling herself, she cautiously extended one leg toward the balcony’s edge.

“Isabella!”

A sharp shout made her foot slip.

Luckily, her grip on the railing was firm-otherwise she might have fallen.

She looked up to see Xavier rushing out. He stood at the edge of the opposite balcony, glaring at her.

“Xavier, are you trying to give me a heart attack?”

Isabella shot back, one hand pressed to her chest as she tried to catch her breath.

“I think you’ve got that backward,” Xavier snapped. “Who told you it was okay to climb across balconies?”

Isabella was left speechless. Instead of helping her first, his instinct was to scold her and pick a fight?

“If you’d opened the door, I wouldn’t have had to climb! I was calling for you-didn’t you hear. anything?”

Xavier’s chest rose and fell. Truth was, both he and the boy had been wearing noiseblocking headsets and hadn’t heard a thing.

“Don’t move. Step back.”

Xavier’s order was cold and quick. He rolled up his sleeves, then reached out and swung himself over the balcony railing.

Isabella watched as he gripped the edge with one hand, stretching one leg until it barely reached her side.

“Give me your hand.” Xavier extended his arm, leaning most of his body toward her.

She realized what he was doing-trying to act as a human bridge so she could get back safely.

But really…

He could’ve had someone bring a ladder, or a strong rope, or at the very least had others hold onto him and taken some safety measures.
