Chapter 213 Locked Down
Chapter 213 Locked Down
Teresa went cold all over when she heard that.
Stanley had seen every move she might make coming.
Even their conversation just now had been within his expectations.
It hit Teresa then that her father was far more frightening than she had ever realized.

Maybe she had always been moving within the careful framework of Stanley’s plans without even knowing it.
Meanwhile, Isabella was walking carefully toward the dining room alongside one of the housemaids, carrying a large soup pot from the kitchen.
The moment she stepped into view, two figures-one tall, one small-both stood up at once and ended up colliding.
Skyler had tried to shove Xavier aside so he could run to his mother alone, but his little body was no match for the man’s height and build. All he managed was to push Xavier half a step backward, causing the man’s hip to bump against a dining chair.
Xavier had been watching the boy’s every move. As Skyler pushed, he caught the kid’s arm and tugged him down to his side.
Just then, Isabella and the maid set the soup pot on the table-and Xavier and Skyler both dropped onto the same chair.
Isabella blinked in surprise at the sight of Skyler practically sitting in Xavier’s lap. “You two made up already?”
Skyler paled, irritation flashing across his face as he tried to wiggle away, but Xavier scooped him up and sat him squarely on his thigh.
With a faint smile, Xavier replied, “Yeah. Jason’s been good today. He finally understood how hard his dad works for him, so he decided to let bygones be bygones.”
There was something unsettling about seeing him play the warm, doting father-usually he carried an aloof, intimidating aura that kept people at a distance. Everyone in the room, Isabella included, felt a slight chill.

It just didn’t seem right.

About an hour earlier, Skyler had been doing his usual evening therapy session with Xavier
present.
But it hadn’t lasted long before Skyler stopped cooperating.
The therapist had advised against threats or force, warning it could increase the child’s resistance, so Xavier called the session off.
When Isabella heard, she made sure to invite the therapist to stay for dinner-partly to show appreciation, but also because she had her own reasons. She still felt a little out of her depth trying to ease the tension between two such strong-willed personalities, and having more people at the table usually helped lighten the mood.
What she hadn’t expected was that even with a full dining room, those two would still find a way to quietly one-up each other.
Right after Xavier finished speaking, Skyler began to struggle. He kicked his small feet, pushing against the table in front of Xavier hard enough to shove a dish near the edge onto the floor. Even though Xavier reacted quickly and lifted Skyler up, hot liquid from the dish splashed onto the boy’s forearm.
“Jason!”
Isabella shot to her feet, alarmed. She grabbed a stack of napkins and hurried over. A small patch on Skyler’s arm was already bright red from the burn.
As she dabbed it gently, Skyler-seizing the moment-forced out loud, dramatic tears. “Waaah!”
When it came to acting, the boy had real talent.
The instant he cried, Isabella’s heart completely melted. She took him from Xavier’s arms, holding him close and patting his back.
“Shhh, it’s okay, sweetie… Let me kiss it better…
“Don’t cry, Mommy’s right here…”
It wasn’t the kind of scene anyone expected to see in Xavier’s home. The atmosphere in the dining room grew awkward instantly.
The therapists exchanged glances, unsure where to look.

Xavier watched Isabella comfort the child and for a moment felt uncertain himself-should he step in, or act like he hadn’t noticed?
After a brief pause, he fell back on habit and spoke in a low, commanding tone, “Put him down.”
The words were directed at Isabella, and they carried the edge of an order.
Then he moved closer to Skyler. “It’s a minor burn. Not a big deal. Stop the crying.”
Isabella felt a flash of irritation at his arrogant tone. Before she could reply, Skyler only seemed to grow more frightened and cried even louder.
“I’m taking him upstairs,” Isabella said quietly. But as she turned, Xavier blocked her path.
“This is exactly why he acts like this-you spoil him.”
Xavier’s voice turned colder, his displeasure clear.
With that, he took Skyler from Isabella’s arms right in front of everyone and carried him all the way to his study.
By the time Isabella rushed after them, the man had already locked the door.
“Xavier, what are you doing? Let him out!”
Isabella knocked firmly on the door. The housemaid who had followed her upstairs added her own pleas.
“Mr. Moore, Jason is still so little. He doesn’t know any better. Please go easy on him!”
From inside came the sound of things being shoved and bumped. Isabella and the maids exchanged uneasy looks.
Downstairs, the therapists no longer felt comfortable staying for dinner, but they didn’t dare leave on their own either.
So they followed the others to the study nervously. Isabella turned to one of them. “You’re the one who said we shouldn’t use punishment or force with children, right?”
The therapist hesitated, not quite sure how to respond, and simply nodded.
