Chapter 41 Lick My Shoes Clean
Something about Isabella in that photo felt happier.
Skyler looked at the man next to her.
The picture was taken with a phone–grainy, just a shot of the marriage certificate saved as an image.
The man’s face was handsome… and weirdly, he looked a little like him.
At that moment, Xavier’s phone pinged with a security alert.
His eyes darkened. Someone had accessed his encrypted files.
“Is someone in my office?” He turned to Jacob, his voice ice–cold.
Jacob jolted. He couldn’t remember if he’d closed the door or not. “Well…”
Before he could answer, Xavier stood up and walked out without another word.
The room buzzed with murmurs as he left, but no one dared move.
Jacob hurried after him.

The office door was shut. Xavier stood outside, his hand on the handle–but just as he was about to pull it open, something made
him hesitate.
“Who’s in there?” he asked.
The office was completely empty, with no signs that anyone had been there.
He swept his gaze across the room, and finally noticed the office chair behind the computer–it was turned around.
He pulled it out–no one there.
And the computer screen was dark.
Jacob rushed in. “Mr. Moore, what’s going on?”
Xavier’s eyes narrowed. His cold stare landed on the mouse. “Pull the security logs. I want to know if anyone unauthorized came into the building in the last fifteen minutes.”
“What did you say your name was?” Hannah spit out a mouthful of hot coffee, nearly chuking. Linda got the brunt of it right in the
face.
Linda flinched, her hair and face dripping
She was disgusted but didn’t dare show it. She grabbed a napkin and handed it to Hannah Tm Linda Head of logistics at Modre Group, and the Allen fanity’s daughter On behalf of my father, I want to apologize
“Oh.” Hannah dabbed at her lips with the napkin and cut her off. “Se you’re the fucking Unda

She hadn’t heard anything about the Allen family spreading fake news about the Carter family. She just wanted to use her family’s name to get inside Moore Group.
But then Linda started running her mouth–and spilled way more than she meant to.
When Isabella left the country years ago, Hannah had heard it was a woman named Linda who put her on that operating table for
Xavier.
If her family had shown up a minute later, Isabella would be dead. And so would her one niece and two nephews.
Linda blinked.
Did I just hear that right? Did she just curse at me? And that tone–it sounds like this woman has a personal grudge.
“Ms. Carter? Is something wrong?” she asked.
J
Hannah almost took off her sunglasses, but stopped herself.
She wouldn’t recognize me anyway.
“Nothing.” Her voice was light. “Just think your name is kind of awful.”
She pushed her sunglasses up her nose, a cold smirk curving her red lips.
Linda’s face twisted. “Awful?”
“Yeah. Linda.” Hannah stretched the name out. “Like–isn’t that what they name the mean girl in old TV dramas? It’s generic, cheap, fake–nice. I don’t know what your parents were thinking. You sure you’re not adopted?”
She used the most dismissive tone she could muster, every word deliberate.
Linda’s composure cracked. “Ms. Carter, you’re from a wealthy family. Do you really have to be so crude?”
“Crude?” Hannah let out a sharp laugh.
Good. She’s cracking already.
She’d been worried Linda would be too patient to make this fun.
She continued, “Your name’s the crude one. You pick a tacky name and then get mad when someone paints it out? My parents. always taught me to tell the truth and do the right thing I’ve lived by that my whole life. How exactly aminades than your name?”
Hannah fired back before Linda could get another word out, ready for a light
Linda had never been humiliated like this. Tears wetled up in her eyes. “Your Ats Carter, Funderstand you’re upset with my father but this is a personal attack.”
“Oh, are you about to cry?” Hannali’s smile only got wider “Don’t Because if you cry, then I look like the bad guy and you look the victim. Which would just prove my point–that you’re take”

Linda’s face burned red. She wanted to snap back, but she didn’t dare. She clenched her jaw. “Ms. Carter, that’s enough.”
Hannah stood up suddenly.
She was already taller than Linda in her heels, but her presence made her seem like she towered over her.
Linda’s eyes went wide. She took half a step back. “What are you doing?”
“You want my investment?” Hannah pressed her red lips together. “Get on your knees and lick my shoes clean. Then maybe I’ll think about it.”
