“You crazy woman, don’t push it!” Linda almost cursed, but then she remembered the investment and swallowed her words.
Hannah laughed. “You really are clueless. You think pissing off the Carter family is just about whether I invest or not?”
She leaned in close to Linda’s ear and dropped her voice. “Let me let you in on a secret. Every year, our family’s competitors end up shipped off to Faeland after they go under. You want the Allen family to score a free ticket, too?”
Linda’s whole body trembled. Her knees gave out, and she dropped to the floor by Hannah’s feet.
She stared at Hannah’s diamond–studded heels, her mouth suddenly aching.
“I don’t have all day. If you’re going to do it, hurry up.” Hannah reached for her watch, then realized she wasn’t wearing one. She flipped her hair instead, just for show.
Linda’s tears slid down, one after another. She steeled herself and leaned toward Hannah’s shoes.
Then voices came from the hallway. “Right this way. Linda’s in there with her now.”
Hannah heard it, too.
They’re here. Which means Skyler probably got what he came for. Time to go.
“Forget it. You missed your chance. Maybe another time,” she said.
She tried to step past Linda, but Linda grabbed her leg. She looked up with big, pitiful eyes, tears streaming down her face. “Ms. Carter, please give me a chance. I’ll make sure you’re completely satisfied. I’m begging you.”
Before Hannah could respond, Xavier and his people walked in. Hannah tried to shake Linda off, but all she did was give her a little shove–and Linda went flying.
She slammed into the coffee table, bounced, and hit the floor.
The female employee who’d led Xavier in rushed over to help her. “Linda! Are you okay?”
Linda’s face was flushed an unhealthy red. She pressed a hand to her stomach. “… My stomach hurts.”
Hannah blinked.
Okay, even if I pushed her harder than I meant to, there’s no way I sent her flying six feet. This woman con really act
No wonder Isabella tell for her trap back then. She was just a naive kid
“What happened? Ms. Allen, are you all right?” Jacob hurried over to help.
Hannah tried to slip out while everyone was distracted, but Xavier caught her arm at the door
He gave a slight pull, and she was back inside.
Hannah adjusted her sunglasses. The man in front of her was tall, imposing, with an icy face that could freeze someone on the spot.

lonestly? I’d probably stare, too.
What a shame.” The words slipped out before she could stop them.

lannah didn’t get a chance to respond. Linda limped over with Jacob’s help, her face pale and pained. “Xavier, I’m the one who
pset Ms. Carter. It was my fault.”

You were in a meeting. Linda was just trying to help. Even if she said something wrong, Ms. Carter didn’t have to hurt her like this.”
Stop…” Linda tried to wave her off. She looked at Xavier. “Xavier, don’t worry about me. This was my fault. I couldn’t make Ms. arter happy.”
hen she turned to Hannah. “Ms. Carter, if you’re angry, take it out on me. I just hope you’ll give Moore Group a chance…”
Ms. Allen, are you still not feeling well?” Hannah cut Linda off before Xavier could speak.
he shoved aside the woman next to Linda and pulled Linda toward her. Linda’s eyes went wide, but she was too weak to resist.
avier watched, his gaze cold. Hannah kept going. “If you’re sick, you should go to the hospital. Why are you pushing yourself to eep serving me?”
