“Why do you have to be so pathetic over a man who won’t even own up to anything? You let him treat you like this and don’t even say anything?” Megan couldn’t understand Linda at all.
Five years ago, not long after Linda came back from abroad, she’d come home crying one night. She wouldn’t say what was wrong, no matter how much Megan asked.
Then Xavier sent over a large sum of money-compensation, he said, for Linda.
Only then did Linda break down and tell Megan that there’d been an accident, one night with Xavier. He’d made her keep quiet about it, and she’d had an abortion.
“Mom Stop.” Linda grabbed at Megan’s mouth like she was losing her mind, her face burning red.
To anyone watching, it looked like a woman clinging to her last shred of dignity after being abandoned. But only Linda knew the truth: what Megan was talking about had never happened was just a lie she’d told.
Just then, the banquet hall doors creaked open.
A striking black figure stepped into the light.
The dress was stunning-designed to perfection, hugging every curve. Fine black diamonds lined the neckline and hem, catching the light and scattering cold, brilliant sparks. The woman wearing it looked elegant, untouchable, commanding the room the second she entered.
Xavier’s eyes flickered with surprise, then turned back into deep.
Isabella wore minimal makeup, but her lips were that signature red.
She smiled, clutching a pearl-studded clutch, and walked straight up to him with her head high. “Xavier, you really are cold. Your childhood sweetheart isn’t doing it for you anymore after just five years? You’d rather keep messing with me?”
Isabella’s appearance sent a ripple through the hall.
Every eye was on her.
Linda’s heart sank.
Isabella? How did she get here? I thought she was gone for good….
“Who is she?”
“Is she here to crash the engagement?”
“Seriously, that woman is something Way hotter than Ms Allen”
“Shut up. The Allen family will hear you.”
The murmuring grew louder. No one from the Moore family recognized her.
Stanley slammed his cane again. The room went quiet.

“Isabella? Weren’t you dead?” Teresa’s voice cut through the confusion, her composure quickly returning. “So it was faked? What game are you playing?”

The woman standing there was Xavier’s late wife, the one who’d been dead for five years.

His wife?
