“Here she comes.” Megan’s voice rang out.
Linda walked slowly through the crowd in an expensive white gown.
Her skin was delicate, her makeup light. Under the glittering lights, she looked almost angelic.

Stanley took Linda’s hand and placed it toward Xavier. “Xavier, today is your engagement to Linda. We’ll get the engagement done first, and we can take our time planning the wedding.”
At the same moment, Isabella stood outside the Allen villa in a sleek black evening gown, her expression cold.
Jacob sucked in a breath when he heard Stanley’s words.
An engagement? But the Moore family still doesn’t know Xavier and Isabella are married again.
“Engagement?” Xavier’s gaze shifted to Linda. His tone was flat–impossible to read.
Linda’s heart raced. Her lashes fluttered as she looked at him. “Xavier, I didn’t mean to trick you, I swear. I just got home. I didn’t know about any of this either…”
“Oh, stop being so nervous. This is a good thing.” Megan thought Linda was being ridiculous.
She jumped in eagerly. “Xavier, don’t be upset. The old saying goes–You build your career after you build your family. You two get engaged tonight, and from now on, all the Allen family’s resources will be at the Moore Group’s disposal. Who needs some Carter family heiress? With both families combined, we’d be unstoppable. Domestically? Globally? There wouldn’t be a competitor out there.”
Megan’s words made it clear she overestimated the Allen family’s standing.
In her mind, the Allen family and the Moore family were equals. Even the Carter family–one of the biggest names in global business–wasn’t that much better.
The truth was, even without the family history, even without Xavier’s current dominance in domestic business, just marrying into the Moore family was already the Allen family punching way above their weight.
Ray’s face burned with embarrassment. He tried desperately to signal Megan to shut up.
Xavier let out a short laugh.
He ran his long fingers under his nose, trying to hide the smirk at the corner of his mouth.
The room went dead quiet.
His laugh was pure mockery.
Stanley didn’t like what Megan had said either, but Linda was the one he approved of He’d personally arranged this engagement with the Allen family.
He cleared his throat and stammed his cane on the flour twice, silencing Xavier
Xavier gave a respectful nod. “My apologies. But Grandfather, Freally can’t help it.”

His voice stayed smooth. “If the Moore family ancestors heard that, they’d probably roll over in their graves. Since when are the Allen family on the same level as the Moore family?”
Megan’s face went red. She looked at Linda.
What the hell is wrong with this guy?
She noticed Linda’s whole body was tense–she looked terrified, not even daring to say a word to Xavier.
This doesn’t make sense.
Megan had always heard Xavier had been in love with Linda since they were kids. If Linda hadn’t gone abroad to study, he would’ve proposed years ago.
nstead, he ended up marrying some nobody.
‘That’s enough.” Stanley’s voice was sharp. “You don’t speak to your elders like that.”
Xavier smiled at Ray, “I respect two kinds of people: my own family elders, and business leaders who’ve earned it. Unfortunately, the Allen family doesn’t qualify as either.”
‘Xavier, I’ve been polite to you because I thought you cared about my daughter. Don’t push it!” Ray’s face went from pale to red.
Under the watchful eyes of their guests, he felt humiliated.
‘Cared about your daughter?” Xavier’s brow furrowed slightly. “That’s a pretty big misunderstanding. I can’t let that slide.”
He gave Stanley a small nod and turned to leave.
Linda took a half–step forward, her lips parting–but she couldn’t bring herself to stop him.
After what happened tonight, he’s going to hate me.
‘Stop right there.” Stanley’s voice was steel. “For years, Linda has been recognized by the Moore family as your wife–to–be. You don’t get to brush that aside with ‘misunderstanding. I’m here tonight. This engagement is happening.”
Then, Xavier’s aunt, Teresa, spoke up. “Xavier, no one usually cares how arrogant you are. But your grandfather is standing right
here.”
