Chapter 64 The Truth About His Heart
Emma stepped forward once more, positioning herself firmly in front of Isabella to block her path.
She stood a little straighter, her voice still soft and pleading, but her posture unyielding.

“I need to be honest–I wasn’t telling you the whole truth earlier. Ms. Allen has never once set foot inside the master bedroom… Mr. Moore has never really cared for Ms. Allen in that way, not at all. It’s always been you, Mrs. Moore. No matter what you do, Mr. Moore always takes your side over everyone else’s.”
Isabella froze for a split second.
Saying Xavier always stood by her–Emma simply had no idea about the complicated history between them… But the claim that Linda had never been in that bedroom? It was almost too hard to believe.
“Emma, you really don’t have to try and comfort me. I’m not looking to compete with Linda over anything.”
“It’s the absolute truth!” Emma replied, her voice tight with frustration, as if she’d made up her mind to lay everything out in the open. “Honestly, I didn’t understand it myself at first–how someone like Ms. Allen, who seemed so perfectly matched for Mr. Moore, never ended up with him after all these years…
“But then I found out the real reason… there’s someone else who holds Mr. Moore’s heart…
“Didn’t you want to know why Mr. Moore lost his sense of taste?
“It was all because of her. Five years ago, Mr. Moore was hospitalized for severe poisoning.”
Isabella had been halfway to turning and leaving, but Emma’s words rooted her to the spot.
Her eyes darkened, and a sharp, heavy ache clenched at her chest, as if she’d been dealt a painful blow.
Poisoning?
The serious case of poisoning Harry had mentioned to her–could it possibly be… that Xavier had poisoned himself?
If that were true… it meant he’d tried to take his own life?
“No way!” Isabella immediately objected.
Someone as self–centered and in love with life as Xavier–how could he ever choose to die?
During the three years she’d spent by his side, even in the beginning, he’d made her test his food for poison before he’d eat.
When he saw news about people who’d gone bankrupt taking their own lives, he’d just sneer and call them tools.
Guarded, critical, harsh, holding grudges…
Someone so consumed with himself–how could he sacrifice himself for someone else?
“Mrs. Moore, I swear–if I’m lying, may my whole family die a horrible death
“It was when I first started working here. I remember it clearly… That night, the light was on in Mr. Moore’s room. He was crying and saying something like, ‘I’l! be with you soon…”

Emma’s voice grew more urgent.
“Then, not long after, it happened.

“Mr. Moore stayed home resting for over a week. Ms. Allen even told me back then–if he ever mentioned a woman’s name, I was supposed to report it to her right away… At the time, I thought Ms. Allen was worried Mr. Moore might lose interest in her. But now that I think about it, Mr. Moore probably never liked Ms. Allen at all.”
Isabella didn’t know what to say. Emma really didn’t seem to be lying, but her words completely turned everything Isabella thought she knew upside down.
So Xavier’s feelings weren’t for Linda–he had always… loved someone else?
And this someone else made both Linda and her look equally pathetic.
Heh…” Isabella’s eyes stung slightly, and she let out a quiet laugh.
Just then, Xavier’s car pulled up next to her and stopped at the entrance.
Exactly half an hour–he was letting her know.
sabella walked toward the car. Emma kept following her. “Mrs. Moore… please, give me another chance…”
sabella didn’t answer. Once she got in the car, she quietly fastened her seatbelt.
Kavier drove off. Seeing Emma still standing at the gate in the rearview mirror, he glanced at Isabella out of the corner of his eye.
sabella stayed silent, but her face looked a little pale.
t seemed someone had been bothered into exhaustion.
After a moment, Xavier said flatly, “I don’t keep people who don’t know their place. I’ll have Jacob bring by some new candidates
ater. You can pick.”
‘What does the letter ‘C‘ on your watch actually stand for?”
Kavier paused, his gaze shifting to his wristwatch. He stayed quiet for a long moment.
‘Forget it. You don’t have to say if you don’t want to,” Isabella said lightly. “Everyone has their secrets anyway.”
So that “C” was just a coincidence with her name.
The one truly etched in his heart wasn’t her, nor Linda–it was someone else entirely.
Even if she found out what “C” meant, it would only end up hurting her more.
Xavier glanced at Isabella. After a pause, he answered, sounding a little displeased, “Then why ask?”
Wasn’t the meaning of this letter obvious enough just by looking at it?
Did she really need him to spell it out?
