What she didn’t know was that in a hotel across town, Hannah was still fast asleep, wearing a steam eye mask.

Beside her pillow, her buzzing phone was slowly nudged along by a small hand until it was finally carried out of the room.

Forty minutes later, the car pulled into an upscale cemetery at the base of a mountain.

The ride had been quiet, and Isabella had dozed off a little, but the moment the car stopped, she woke up immediately.

When she saw her surroundings, her face filled with disbelief. A cemetery? Xavier, you’re not seriously planning to talk things out in a cemetery, are you?

They were discussing a divorceif not in an office, then at least somewhere with a place to sit

But Xavier ignored her. He got out of the car, walked around to her side, pulled the door open, and yanked her out in one motion

Isabella’s arm was locked in his grip, leaving her no choice but to hurry alongside him into the cemetery.

The cemetery was sprawling. Elaborate stone carvings divided the space into just a few sections. Prices here averaged tens of millions per plot, and there were only a handful availablea proper resting place for the wealthy.

Xavier, what are you up to now?!

Xavier didn’t answer. He led Isabella straight to a headstone carved with a doorwayshaped relief.

Seeing the gravestone, Isabella’s heart gave a jolt.

The name Tanner Mooreimmediately caught her eye.

Tanner was Xavier’s father.

But when Isabella had left five years ago, Tanner had only been paralyzed and bedridden.

Still, she had suspected this day had come.

The time she’d met Sander, Xavier had deliberately referred to Sander’s father as a killer

Truth be told, in the Moore family, aside from Noah, Tanner had treated Isabella quite well too.

The rest of the Moores all thought Isabella came from a poor background and had schemed her way into tying kavey down, they rarely gave her a kind look.

Only Tanner treated her like family. Every time Isabella visited Moore Manor, he would call her into his room, talk with her alone for a while, ask about Xavier and how she was doing just casual conversation, nothing about business

Seeing that his father liked her, Xavier would bring habella along whenever he went to visit Tanner.

And only in front of Tanner would Xavier play the devoted husband.

Isabella still remembered the last time she’d gone to see Tanner. The man had been sick and frail by then.

Xavier had been away on a business trip and couldn’t make it back, so he’d had Jacob arrange for her to visit his father alone.

Tanner had been listless and unable to say much, but when he saw her, he managed to sit up. His aged, withered hand had held

hers with joy.

When Isabella started talking about how Zavier was doing, Tanner would shake his head and stop her. Only when he heard her say that she herself was doing well did satisfaction show in his eyes.

Though Tanner was the most downandout member of the Moore family, he had given Isabella the most warmth.

The kind of warmth from a father that she’d never had before

Isabella pulled free from Zavier’s grip. She bowed formally toward Tanner’s headstone. Tanner, it’s been a long time.

Before Dad passed, he was still asking where you’d gone.

Xavier spoke from behind Isabella, his voice low.

Isabella took a deep breath, turned, and looked at Xavier with cold eyes. I don’t want to discuss divorce with you in front of Tanner’s grave, Xavier. If you’re using this to try to stop it, that’s just cruel. It’s heartless.

Using his own father like this.

Hearing Isabella’s words, Xavier’s expression barely shifted. He just let out a cold laugh. Looks like someone still has a conscience.

Isabella tried to leave, but he grabbed her again and pushed her back in front of the headstone.

You want to divorce me to be with Sander, don’t you? But you probably haven’t forgotten who was responsible for my father’s

death,

Xavier stood tall and straight. He looked down at her, each word cold and sure, like a judge delivering a verdict

Xavier, can you stop being so paranoid?!

Isabella couldn’t be bothered to explain the situation with Sander to him.

As far as she was concerned, it had all been an accident.
