Xavier cut her off, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Then he pulled out a few bank cards and slid them across the table toward her.

Isabella almost laughed. She picked up the cards and looked at them. “So, are we still talking about us now?”

“If you have any other conditions, just name them.”

Xavier’s tone was as commanding as ever, but the way he looked at Isabella had noticeably softened.

“Xavier, do you really think I’m some kind of object? That if you offer a high enough price, you can just buy me?”

“I just want you to be happy.”

A lump moved in Xavier’s throat as he stared deep into the woman’s eyes, but her face showed no sign of pleasure.

Did he say something wrong again?

“If you really want to make me happy, just sign the divorce papers and let’s end this peacefully.”

Isabella could not be bothered to argue with him anymore. She tossed the cards back at him.

One of them grazed his face. He did not flinch.

Isabella turned to leave, but two of Xavier’s men were standing outside the private room, blocking her way back in.

With no other choice, Isabella sat back down.

A full spread of dishes arrived, and Xavier started putting food onto her plate. “You should like

these.”

“It’s alright…” Isabella had not even finished the sentence before she felt a heat on her lips.

Xavier kissed her.

The kiss came out of nowhere, but it was over as soon as it started.

Isabella barely even had time to resist.

“Tastes good.”

When Xavier kissed her, he had used his tongue to wipe away the bit of crab roe left at the corner of her mouth.

“Xavier, are you seriously never going to stop taking advantage of me?!”

Isabella shoved his chest hard, but he caught her hand and pulled her into an even more intimate position against him.

“And besides, didn’t you lose your sense of taste?”

“Harry told you that? But did he also mention that if I eat something good, it actually helps bring it back a little…”

Xavier’s voice was still cold, but whispering against her ear while holding her like that made it burn right through her.

“I’m not food. Why did you kiss me?”

Isabella just went along with what Xavier said without thinking.

But the second the words left her mouth, she realized how wrong that sounded.

Not wanting to give him another excuse to feed her, Isabella grabbed her bowl and fork and ate her meal in silence.
