Chapter 86 Ten Late–Night Meals
Skyler didn’t reply. His small face fell, and he lowered his head slowly.
The boy was usually so sharp, determined, and stubborn, so it was rare to see him look so defeated and downcast.
Hannah’s heart softened instantly at the sight.

The two of them fell silent for a moment. Hannah glanced at the plain, light broth she was holding and decided to soften her tone.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to snap at you like that.”
Hannah cleared her throat softly, reached out to hold Skyler’s little arm gently, and patted his head.
‘Skyler, let’s head back inside for now. Your mom’s already having such a hard time taking care of Jason all by herself… If you go getting mixed up in more trouble too, it’ll only make her worry even more.”
Hannah spoke in a gentle voice, half coaxing and half pleading with the boy.
Skyler looked up at Hannah, and after a long, quiet pause, he finally nodded. “Hannah, can you give me just a few more days? I still… have something I need to finish.”
‘What is it?”
h
Skyler didn’t answer Hannah’s question. He simply shook his head.
‘Is it something for your mom?”
‘Yeah.”
Skyler nodded firmly.
He looked at Hannah with a sincere, earnest expression, his bright eyes shimmering with hope.
Hannah wanted badly to say no, but when the words reached her lips, she still ended up saying, “Five days, and that’s the naximum.”
‘Deal!”
Seeing Skyler’s instantly excited face, Hannah began to wonder if she’d given him too much time.
‘Maybe three days instead… I think five might be too long…”
‘Hannah, grown–ups are supposed to keep their promises!”
With that, Skyler darted off quickly back to his room.
He left Hannah no chance at all to take back her words.
Hannah pressed her lips together in quiet frustration.
Just then, her phone vibrated with a text from an unknown number.

“Got a minute to talk? I’m outside your hotel.”
Hannah’s heart sank. She knew immediately who it was… Harry.
Not wanting to wake or disturb the boy, Hannah quickly threw on a long cardigan, slipped on her shoes, and tiptoed quietly out of
the room.
She walked down to the hotel lobby and spotted Harry’s tall figure right away outside the revolving doors.
The man was standing next to a dark gray Cadillac. In profile, he was staring down at his phone with one hand, while holding a cigarette in the other.
It was late at night, but the hotel’s exterior lights were still bright and clear.
From where Hannah stood, Harry’s whole demeanor and presence reminded her so strongly of that person.
Far more than he had seven years earlier.
After taking a few deep, steadying breaths, Hannah walked outside slowly.
Harry turned around at that exact moment, and their eyes met directly. Hannah forced a tight, awkward smile.
“Long time no see.”
“We already said that to each other last time at the hospital.”
Harry was smiling too, but it felt completely different from the smiles they’d shared when they were together back then.
Now, he seemed far more mature, gentle, and calm.
“How did you find me?” Hannah asked right away.
Harry replied calmly, “The information you filled out when you donated blood was all accurate.”
Hannah pressed her lips together, realizing she had miscalculated.
She never thought filling out some paperwork would lead an old acquaintance straight to her.
And not just any old acquaintance–one who made her eyes sting just from seeing him.
“It’s not really cold out. Don’t you think you’re dressed a bit too warm?”
Harry looked Hannah over.
The woman was bundled up tightly in a thick coat, still wearing her pajamas underneath, by the look of it.
He remembered how, back in the day, even taking out the trash used to take Hannah over forty minutes to get ready for.
“I have a bit of a cold.” Hannah tightened her coat with one hand and touched her cold nose with the other. “Did you need something?”
“I just got off work and was passing by. Thought I’d see if you wanted to grab a late–night bite.”
Hearing that Hannah had a cold, Harry immediately took off his jacket and moved to put it around her shoulders.

But Hannah stepped back half a step. “No need, I’m warm enough. And I’m not really in the mood for a late–night snack?
“Not even to do me a small favor?”
Harry sounded disappointed, pulling his hand back and holding his coat awkwardly.
Just as Hannah thought their meeting was about to end awkwardly, the man paused and added, “So, how do you plan to pay me back for what you owe?”
Hannah stared blankly at Harry.
In her memory, Harry was the honest, upright type–the kind who probably wouldn’t ask a woman to repay a favor.
But then again, the two of them weren’t exactly the type to casually grab a late–night snack and catch up.
f he had reached out to her, he probably had a reason.
“Name your price, and I’ll transfer it to you.”
As she spoke, Hannah wondered if her personal account had enough money.
Her allowance from her gr
