Chapter 95 Playing Along
Isabella was mentally sifting through the names of medications she had been prescribed in the past. Over the years, she’d made her own headway in understanding blood disorders–enough to know that the specialized treatment Noah really needed couldn’t be carried around in a purse or whipped up on demand.
Still, she was sure a combination of available drugs could stabilize him for now, keep him from getting worse, and do so without side effects.
“I know…” Noah’s voice was faint, his strength clearly fading. “You don’t want Xavier to find out.”
He’d talked more today than in weeks, and it had drained him. His breathing grew ragged, and a slight tremor ran through his body.
Quickly, Isabella lowered the hospital bed, helping him lie flat.
“And…” he tried to continue, but she shook her head gently, placing a finger to her lips.
‘You gave up on this a long time ago, didn’t you?”
She hadn’t wanted to say it aloud, but the truth was obvious: Noah’s condition hadn’t just worsened on its own over the past five years. He’d stopped following any real treatment plan long ago. He’d stopped wanting one.
A tired, almost peaceful smile touched his pale lips. He reached for her hand, his grip weak, and mouthed two silent words, “Thani you.”
Thank you for still coming. For still being here.
sabella felt her throat tighten. She squeezed his hand back, a heaviness settling deep in her chest.
Before long, the medication took effect, and Noah drifted into an uneasy sleep.
Stepping out into the hallway, Isabella saw Rachel approaching, followed by Linda and a young caregiver.
‘Dr. Hale,” Isabella said, intercepting her. “Could we speak privately for a moment?”
‘Of course,” Rachel replied smoothly, handing several pill bottles to the assistant. “Go ahead and check his vitals. The medication schedule is on the chart.”
As soon as Rachel and Isabella had left, the young caregiver was just about to go into the ward when Linda held her back
“You mentioned a friend was waiting for you to grab lunch earlier, didn’t you? You should go ahead. I’ll stay here and keep an eye on things.”
The young caregiver looked awkward and hesitant. “Gee… I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“It’s really no trouble at all. I don’t have anything else to do right now”
Linda spoke in such a soft, gentle tone that the caregiver couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
The young caregiver gave her a bright, grateful smile. “Thanks so much, Linda! I’ll be back before you know it!”
Linda watched the young girl walk away with a smile on her face. Only after making sure there was no one else around did she

quietly enter the hospital room.
She saw that Noah was sound asleep, his arm with the IV line resting uncovered outside the blanket.

Isabella led Rachel to a quiet corner near a window overlooking the hospital grounds.
“Tell me honestly,” Isabella began, her tone direct, “are you actually confident you can cure him?”
Rachel’s cheerful demeanor cooled slightly. “If you don’t trust my methods, Mrs. Moore, you’re welcome to have Mr. Moore dismiss
me.”
“I’m not here to play games,” Isabella said, turning to face her fully. “I have some background in medicine myself. I’d like to understand the composition and approach of your treatment.”
“Mr. Moore agreed to keep my formula confidential. If it’s confidential, I can’t very well discuss it, can I?” Rachel’s voice remained even. “If you have concerns about the medications, Dr. Ashford oversees all pharmacology here. Nothing is administered without full testing and approval.”
‘I’m not asking for a favor. I’m giving you a chance.”
sabella’s patience thinned. She closed the space between them, her gaze locking onto Rachel’s. “You’re not the real deal–you’re not Aletta. And if I decide to, I have more than enough ways to expose you.
‘Xavier doesn’t tolerate deceit, and neither do I,” she continued, her voice low but sharp. “If you’ve harmed Noah in any way, I will make sure you regret it for the rest of your life.”
Though she held her emotions in check, the intensity in her eyes was enough to make Rachel stiffen.
Finally, Rachel’s expression shifted. “The treatment… It’s fairly straightforward. Herbal supplements combined with a specific antibiotic protocol.”
She reluctantly offered a handwritten list of ingredients. Isabella scanned it quickly. The formula was primarily supportive–maybe enough to show short–term improvement, but in the long run, it wouldn’t address the underlying cause. How reckless, to play with
someone’s health like this.
“Why pretend to be Aletta?” Isabella pressed. “Xavier found you. Was it a setup? Did someone send you
Rachel gave a slow, ambiguous smile. “You already know the answer to that, don’t you?”
“What do you mean?”
“If I were working for someone, that person would know a great deal about the real Aletta
uncover me?”
