Chapter 212
Norah’s POV

The red light above the operating room door pressed into my eyes, making it hard to keep them open.
It felt like a cold, harsh red eye staring right at me, draining any sense of time or anything else around me.
The air stank of cold, harsh disinfectant mixed with the lamp smell of seawater and the dried blood on me, turning into a sickening odor that made my stomach twist.
My right hand, the old injury, flared up again from last night’s pulling and the cold, sending sharp waves of pain through it. My fingers shook on their own.
The nurse had already come over three times, begging me to get my wound treated right away.
I didn’t listen.
I just pulled the policewoman’s jacket tighter around myself, even though it didn’t fit me at all.
I sat on the freezing bench, back straight like a board, eyes fixed on the closed operating room door, not moving even a little.
Behind that door, the doctors were fighting death for someone’s life.
I felt like I had slipped out of my own body, drifting through that door and hanging over his injured form, shaking with the beeping lines of the monitor.
Time seemed to freeze.
Every second dragged like slow pain.
From the end of the hallway came rushed footsteps, softened on purpose.
Irina and Katarina almost ran in.
Both looked pale, eyes swollen from crying, they hadn’t slept, running everywhere trying to get news.
“Norah!” Irina rushed to me and wrapped me in a shaky hug. Her body shook; I couldn’t tell if it was from cold or fear. “Oh my God… your hand! Doctor! Someone help her now!”
Katarina didn’t say anything. She carefully placed a tablet on the empty space beside me. I slowly turned my head to look.
The headline was in bold red letters, harsh and scary.

Below it were blurry but still recognizable photos.
A burning lighthouse, a Coast Guard boat, someone being rushed away on a stretcher, and old photos of
Lucien at the cruise auction.
My nails pressed into my palm, and the pain from my old injury snapped me back.

Chapter 212
Katarina slid her finger across the screen and opened the live broadcast.
The screen showed a serious press conference with the Interpol logo behind the speaker.
The spokesperson spoke in a calm, steady tone.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we interrupt your program for Breaking news. Last night, on the private island owned by the Cappe family, a violent kidnapping and attempted murder happened. The victims were Lucien Constantine, chairman of the Constantine Group, and Norah Hawthorne, founder of the Thornbird brand.”
“According to carly police reports, the person behind this incident is Amélie Veyron. She is the daughter of Robert Veyron, the arms dealer who was convicted three years ago.”
The anchor paused, and a photo of Amélic from years back appeared, back when she still looked bright and full of energy.
Then the screen placed that photo beside her current wanted poster, showing her face scarred and burned. The difference was shocking.
The anchor’s tone grew more serious as he explained the past. “The downfall of the Veyron family did not begin today.”
The screen switched to an old clip from three years ago,
The footage was grainy, focusing on an older man, Robert Veyron himself.
His hair was wild and white, his hands cuffed, and under the flashing cameras, he lowered his head in shame.
“Three years ago, after Mr. Constantine survived a car crash, he worked with Interpol to take down the Veyron family’s arms smuggling and money laundering network across Europe in one move.”
The video flashed through several scenes: warehouse doors being kicked open, showing piles of weapon crates; safes packed with bundles of money and jewels; computer screens racing through records of illegal deals…
“Robert Veyron and his main men were taken in, and most of their money and property were frozen and taken over. The once–strong Veyron gun network, which held much of Europe’s underground world for years, was called finished.”
“Unfortunately, not every leftover member was caught. Last night’s cruel kidnapping on the Cappe family’s private island was the last wild move by the leftover Veyron group, led by Robert’s daughter, Amélie Veyron. With this group taken down, the well–known arms family’s last hold on power has been fully broken.”
The screen then went back to the usual financial news channel.
Lucien’s main lawyer stood in front of the Constantine Group’s building, facing a crowd of microphones. He spoke in a clear and calm way.
“Since the last leftover part of the Veyron family’s power has been fully taken apart, and their hidden final assets are now being handled for sale, the Constantine Group will, based on the related business rules and the final court order, finish the full takeover and merging of their parts.”
He paused, then looked straight into the camera. “This is the formal notice that all violent crimes have been committed. The Constantine Group and Chairman Lucien Constantine always believe that old age is over.

The new system will be built on clear laws, open rules, and long–term growth.”
It was all over.
Inside and outside the screen were two completely different worlds.
One world was busy sorting out the mess, cheering, and laying out big new business plans.

The other world, this hallway heavy with the smell of death, held only me and that harsh red light, stuck in a quiet face–off.
He spent three years, a fake marriage, and a body covered in scars, almost lost his life, to finally put every enemy in prison and pull together the land he wanted.
But what about me?
What did I get?
Three years of choking misunderstandings, hands nearly destroyed, days spent hiding, and two kids I couldn’t even tell him about.
My mind spun out. I didn’t know if I should feel glad for him or more crushed by the love between us, full of mistakes, pain, and secrets.
Right when I felt myself slipping into that heap of emotions, the red light above the operating room door
went out.
I stopped breathing all at once.
The door opened from the inside, and a doctor in green scrubs and a mask stepped out first. He looked worn out, but there was a small sign of relief in his eyes.
I jumped from the chair so fast that I almost fainted and almost fell forward.
Irina and Katarina grabbed me from both sides.
“Doctor…” I forced the word out.
