Janus sat on his sofa, looking relaxed as he watched the screen. A cold smirk played on his lips while he absentmindedly fiddled with a cigarette.

His assistant stood nearby, watching his calm expression. “Do you think Lilian is actually behind what’s happening to the company right now?”

Janus let out a short, mocking laugh, his dark eyes glinting. “I’ve only dealt with her a few times, but it’s clear she’s her own person. She doesn’t like leaning on others. Even if she wanted revenge, she wouldn’t drag outsiders into the mess. Think about it, if she were willing to use her connections, with someone as powerful as Sebastian backing her, would she have been backed into a corner and forced to hold a press conference in the first place?”

“So you’re saying she has nothing to do with this?” the assistant asked, confused.

Janus stared at the girl’s face on the screen. “I wouldn’t say she’s completely uninvolved. There’s no doubt she’s tight with those families. If I had to guess, they’ve teamed up to stick up for her and started this whole mess on their own. But it actually makes me respect her more. It’s impressive that she can get that many people to have her back, especially when most would be running for the hills. That’s rare.”

The assistant hesitated before asking, “Are you really just going to stay out of it while the company struggles?”

A cold light flickered in Janus’s narrow eyes. “The old coot is so capable, let him handle it. If he can’t, he’s got that precious grandson he’s been grooming. I’m sure they’ll figure something out.”

The assistant looked anxious. “But this is different from before. Having four major partners pull out at once is going to cause massive, unpredictable losses. Even if you win the inheritance, won’t you be the one stuck cleaning up the mess?”

“I don’t care,” Janus said with a chilling smile. “Even if it’s an empty shell by the time I get it, I can bring it back to life. Don’t worry about it. If anything, this might make it even easier for the inheritance to fall right into my lap. It saves me a lot of trouble.”

Seeing his boss’s mind was made up, the assistant kept quiet. Janus never played by the rules, so all the assistant could do was pray things didn’t get so bad that his boss ended up inheriting a total disaster.

Robert gave Lilian a sharp, piercing look. “So, you have no intention of admitting it.”

Lilian scoffed. “Why would I admit to something I didn’t do? Of course, if you’re determined to pin this on me, I guess I’ll just have to take the credit. After all, I am very close with those families.”
