Chapter 109: Jill’s Heartbreak

With everything unfolding at Skyreach Group, Lilian hadn’t seen Jill in more than two weeks. The weight of the company’s turmoil had kept them apart, and Lilian worried quietly about her friend.

When Lilian finally spotted Jill, the first thing that caught her attention was the redness in Jill’s eyes—telltale signs of sleepless nights and silent tears. Jill looked utterly exhausted, drained beyond what mere fatigue could explain. Lilian immediately sensed this wasn’t the moment to pry. Instead, she simply reached out and said softly, “Come on. Let’s take a walk.”

Without a word, the two began strolling down the street together. The silence between them was thick but not uncomfortable—sometimes words only get in the way.

As twilight faded into night, the city around them came alive. Solara was glowing, bathed in the warm, colorful lights of the holiday season. Christmas was just around the corner, and the streets were adorned with festive decorations, twinkling bulbs, and the hum of joyful anticipation. The air smelled faintly of pine and cinnamon, and couples wandered hand in hand, laughter spilling into the chilly evening.

Eventually, they reached the central plaza. Lilian slipped into a small convenience store nearby and returned with a couple of cold beers. Finding a quiet spot on the steps, they sat side by side, surrounded by the gentle buzz of passersby enjoying the holiday spirit.

Lilian popped open a can and handed one to Jill, who took a tentative sip. Another. Then, as if the beer loosened something inside her, Jill finally began to speak.

“Lilian… did you know? I’ve liked him for ten years. From the moment I first saw him, I was completely smitten.”

Lilian remained silent, understanding that this was Jill’s moment to unload, to let her heart speak.

“I always believed that if I stayed close enough, if I kept proving myself worthy, he’d eventually notice me. I worked so hard, pushed myself to be someone he’d want—someone he’d see. But instead, he just drifted further and further away. The last time I saw him with his girlfriend, it hit me. It was time to let go. But how do you let go of ten years like it’s nothing?”

Her voice cracked, and tears began to spill freely. “I don’t get it. Am I not enough? Why can’t he see me?”

By the end, Jill was openly sobbing, her shoulders shaking with the force of her grief.

Lilian took a slow, steady sip of her beer, her gaze drifting toward the sparkling plaza lights. Her voice came out low, gentle but firm. “It’s not that he can’t see you. And it’s not that you’re not good enough. The truth is… he just doesn’t love you.”

The words landed harshly, but Lilian wanted Jill to face the reality clearly, to stop holding onto illusions.
