Chapter 127: Lilian Visits Empire Group
Lilian arrived at the Solara branch of Empire Group in a taxi, her heart pounding with a mix of nerves and anticipation. Before her stood an imposing building, its towering structure reaching ambitiously toward the sky. The sleek black glass exterior gleamed brilliantly under the afternoon sun, reflecting the bustling city around it. At the very top, the bold letters spelling out “Empire Group” commanded respect—simple yet undeniably powerful.
This was Lilian’s first visit to Sebastian’s workplace. Although it was only a branch office, it represented a world few ever had the privilege to enter. The grandeur of the building alone was enough to make her breath catch.
At the entrance, employees hurried back and forth, their faces focused and determined, each one seemingly caught in the whirlwind of corporate life. The atmosphere was charged with energy, the kind that only a place of high stakes and big decisions could hold.
Lilian stepped inside, her white coat contrasting sharply with the modern, minimalist lobby. She wore a duck-themed face mask and gloves, a quirky touch that made her stand out amid the sea of polished professionalism. Almost immediately, a receptionist approached her with a polite smile.
“Hello, who are you here to see?” the receptionist asked, her tone courteous but businesslike.
“I’m here to see your CEO,” Lilian replied without hesitation.
The receptionist blinked, clearly surprised. “Do you have an appointment?”
“No,” Lilian answered honestly. She had planned this as a surprise visit—what kind of surprise would it be if she’d scheduled it in advance? But now, standing there, she couldn’t help but feel a flicker of doubt. Maybe she should have given Sebastian a heads-up after all.
“I’m sorry, but without an appointment, I can’t let you through,” the receptionist said firmly.
Lilian understood the policy. Skyreach Group had similar rules. High-ranking executives had packed schedules, and they simply couldn’t meet just anyone who showed up unannounced.
She was about to pull out her phone to call Sebastian when a familiar voice, full of excitement, cut through the tension.
“Lilian!” the voice called out eagerly.
She looked up to see a young man dressed flamboyantly in a burgundy draped coat and slim black pants—an outfit impossible to ignore. It took her a moment to place him.
Cameron grinned widely. “It’s really you! You’re dressed like that—I almost didn’t recognize you!”
Lilian blinked, a smile tugging at her lips despite her surprise. “Yeah, I remember you.” His personality was impossible to forget.
Cameron struck a dramatic pose. “Good thing you do. I’d be heartbroken if you forgot me. I mean, come on—I’m this good-looking.”
“So, little Lilian,” he said with a teasing tone, “are you here to see Sebastian?”
“Yes, but I don’t have an appointment. I was just about to call him now.” She raised her phone, ready to dial.
Before she could, Cameron snatched the phone from her hand. “Call him? Why bother? The receptionist just doesn’t know any better. Come on, I’ll take you up. If Sebastian finds out you came all this way and didn’t see him, he’d be crushed.” Then, turning to the receptionist, he added with a grin, “Lilian’s family. Don’t block her next time.”
Before Lilian could respond, Cameron was already pulling her toward the elevator.
