Chapter 159: Ambushed
At the towering gates of Riverdale High School, a throng of reporters had gathered, their cameras and microphones poised eagerly toward the entrance. They had been camped out there for hours, hoping to catch a glimpse of Lillian or snag an exclusive interview. Yet despite their persistence, she remained elusive, hidden from their prying eyes.
Inside a brightly lit classroom, Natalie sat scrolling through her phone with a mix of excitement and admiration. “Lillian, you’re amazing,” she whispered, her voice tinged with awe.
Lillian, however, felt a wave of helplessness washing over her. She had never anticipated that someone would upload the video online, sparking such an overwhelming sensation. The attention it garnered far exceeded anything she had imagined. Previously, she had managed to handle the fallout from similar footage, but this time, it was clearly out of her hands. All she could do was take a deep breath and let events unfold one step at a time.
Meanwhile, Eda’s eyes narrowed as she stared at the flood of online reports about Lillian. Her face twisted with frustration, and her fingers clenched around her phone so tightly that her knuckles turned stark white. She had never expected that the plan meant to humiliate Lillian in front of the entire school and its influential leaders would backfire so spectacularly. Her cousin had warned her that Lillian was crafty, but she had dismissed the warning with a scoff. Now, it was painfully clear she had severely underestimated the girl’s cunning.
Before long, the internet had scraped together basic information about Lillian—though only surface-level facts. Even Nora hadn’t predicted that Lillian would gain such sudden fame from the incident. Watching Lillian and Natalie leave the school side by side, chatting and laughing as they climbed into a waiting car, Nora ground her teeth in bitter resentment.
Lost in her dark thoughts, Nora was suddenly caught off guard when a hand clamped over her mouth from behind. The world spun rapidly, and before she could react, everything faded to black.
Back to the video’s sudden surge in popularity, Lillian chose not to focus on it. She remained absorbed in her own affairs, refusing to let the chaos distract her. When the reporters failed to locate her and couldn’t uncover much more information, they eventually gave up and left the school grounds.
Despite that, Lillian’s Twitter followers skyrocketed overnight, soaring to over a million. Though she hadn’t confirmed anything publicly, the majority of people believed she was the person in the video.
That afternoon, after classes had ended, Lillian waited patiently by the school gate for Jill. They had planned to go shopping together, but as time ticked by, Jill still hadn’t shown up. Just as Lillian reached for her phone to call, a mysterious message appeared on the screen.
“If you want to find your friend, come to Westgate Warehouse.”
Reading the cryptic note twice, Lillian tried calling Jill again, but the phone was switched off. With no way to verify the message’s authenticity, she made a decision.
A taxi carried her to the vicinity of Westgate Warehouse. She stepped out nearby and made her way toward Warehouse No. 3. At the entrance, several men dressed in black stood guard. When they spotted her approaching, one asked sharply, “Lillian?”
She shot them a cold, sarcastic smile. “You invited me here, and now you need to ask who I am?”
Without another word, the men pushed open the heavy warehouse door. Lillian stepped inside, revealing a vast, dimly lit space where over a dozen people were gathered. At the front stood a man who greeted her with a polite smile. “Hello, Ms. Lillian. Please forgive the unusual invitation. I hope it hasn’t inconvenienced you.”
