Chapter 20: Chaos at the Banquet
Lillian shot Ethan a dramatically exasperated look, half teasing but genuinely frustrated. “This is all your doing,” she whispered under her breath. If it weren’t for him, she wouldn’t have unwittingly become Olivia’s target tonight — what a tangled mess this had turned into.
As the auction pressed on, Olivia effortlessly became the focal point of the evening, confidently claiming each item with the highest bid. The crowd erupted in applause with every victory she secured, her smug smile only growing wider.
Noticing Olivia’s mocking glance, Lillian chuckled softly and leaned closer to Ethan. “He’s basically throwing money around just to catch your eye,” she teased.
Ethan returned her smile with a playful smirk. “You never miss a chance to poke fun at me, do you?”
Just when the night seemed to be unfolding smoothly, a piercing scream shattered the calm.
“Liv! What’s happening?” someone shouted.
Every head turned toward Olivia, who had suddenly lost control, wildly thrashing at the guests around her. She was moments away from crashing into an elderly man when one of her security guards abruptly kicked her, sending her sprawling to the floor.
The old gentleman, clearly shocked, instantly turned pale. Clutching his chest, his breath grew shallow and rapid before he collapsed backward onto the floor.
Pandemonium erupted in the room. Gasps echoed through the crowd as some guests rushed forward to assist. Mia, standing close to Olivia, frantically tried to restrain her, but Olivia was completely out of control, her movements erratic and desperate.
With the elderly man unconscious and Olivia spiraling, Lillian sprang into action. She stepped forward decisively, grasping Olivia firmly and pulling a slender silver needle from her pocket. In one fluid motion, she pressed it into the side of Olivia’s neck.
Within moments, Olivia’s body slackened, and she gently crumpled to the ground.
Mia’s eyes widened in alarm. “What did you do to her? Why did she faint like that?”
Lillian remained silent. Instead, she grabbed the edge of a nearby tablecloth and gave it a sharp tug. To everyone’s amazement, the cloth slid off the table perfectly, leaving every glass, plate, and utensil untouched as it draped neatly over Olivia’s limp form.
A stunned hush fell over the room.
No one had expected such precision from this seemingly ordinary young woman.
