Rewrite Her Thrilling Life (Lillian and Sebastian) novel Chapter 218

Chapter 218: Found

Lillian tightened her jaw, steeling herself as the unsettling scene unfolded before her eyes. From the small pack slung over her shoulder, she carefully extracted a tiny vial filled with a clear liquid. With deliberate care, she sprayed a fine mist along the narrow path ahead, the sedative she had painstakingly perfected. It was potent enough to lull even the most venomous snakes into a deep, untroubled slumber. Moving with cautious precision, she pressed onward into the dim, winding tunnel.

With each step she took, the damp, oppressive air grew heavier, clinging to her skin like a suffocating shroud. The faint drip of water echoed softly around her, adding to the cavern’s eerie stillness.

At last, the tunnel opened into a hidden chamber, circular in shape, surrounded by several identical passages branching out like spokes from a wheel. The sight froze Lillian in her tracks, uncertainty twisting her insides. Which path could possibly lead to Sebastian?

Sunny, the little fox, scurried about energetically, sniffing at each opening before suddenly darting down one of the shadowed tunnels with purpose.

“Sunny!” Lillian called out, quickening her pace to follow the small creature into the narrow passage. The darkness seemed to close in tighter here, shadows dancing along the stone walls.

They continued deeper until they reached a solid stone barrier at the tunnel’s end. Sunny yipped anxiously, scratching at the unyielding surface as if desperate to break through. Lillian pressed her palm against the cold, unbroken rock. It was immovable, impenetrable.

Yet, her gut screamed that Sebastian was trapped just beyond this wall. The question was how to reach him.

Unno, standing silently nearby, watched her with a soft expression. “Mr. Whitmore is a man of great fortune,” he said gently, his voice steady despite the tension. “He’ll be alright. He has to be.”

Lillian’s eyes scanned the chamber, sharp and searching. Then something caught her attention—a faint movement beneath their feet. The underground stream flowed steadily inward, suggesting that the cave must connect to another hidden chamber. If the water could flow in, there had to be a passage, perhaps concealed behind a mechanism.

Her fingers trailed along the damp stone walls, moving inch by inch, seeking any sign of a trigger or hidden latch.

But there was nothing. No seam, no crack, no hint of a door.

Frustration bubbled inside her chest, hot and sharp. She stared at the solid wall, feeling an unfamiliar wave of helplessness wash over her. The weight of the moment pressed down, threatening to crush her resolve.

Unno remained by her side, uncertain how to offer comfort. Instead, he began tapping lightly on the stones, listening intently for hollow sounds.

“Ms. Sinclair!” his voice broke the silence, threaded with excitement. “Over here—I found something!”

Lillian spun around and hurried toward him. Together, they rapped sharply on the wall. The sound was different—hollow.

A flicker of hope sparked in her chest, the first since they’d entered the cave.

For someone like Unno, trained in situations like this, the mechanism was simple. With a few deft adjustments, the section of stone shifted, revealing a small hidden compartment. Inside lay a candleholder.

Lillian’s heart hammered in her chest. Just as she had suspected, it was immovable. She grasped it firmly and twisted experimentally. A grinding noise echoed through the chamber.

The heavy stone wall trembled, then began to slide open slowly.
