Chapter 235: The Shooting Contest

Everly’s expression darkened as she observed the young girl’s every move, a cruel spark igniting deep within her eyes. That little witch. This has to be some favor Sebastian granted her. Once I claim victory, she will pay for this humiliation. I’ll make sure Sebastian witnesses her true nature firsthand.

Allen studied the girl, who moved with an almost ethereal grace. Though she appeared delicate and youthful, she remained utterly composed from start to finish, her face betraying no hint of emotion. Clearly, this competitor was far from ordinary—she would be a formidable challenge.

As preparations concluded, a servant approached with a silver tray bearing ripe cherries, their glossy red skins gleaming under the bright sunlight.

The shooting order was announced: Allen would go first, followed by the blond man, then Everly, and finally Lillian.

Each participant took their position, and the servants carefully balanced a cherry atop each of their heads, the tension in the air thickening with anticipation.

From a distance of a hundred meters, Allen drew his bowstring taut and released a perfectly aimed arrow. It struck the cherry perched on Everly’s head with a satisfying pop. The crowd erupted in cheers, their excitement palpable.

When it was Lillian’s turn, a wave of mocking voices rippled through the onlookers.

“Allen, don’t be too harsh on such a pretty girl. Show some mercy,” one sneered.

“Yeah, if you’re scared, just admit it. We won’t laugh,” another jeered.

Laughter followed, dripping with scorn. Their contempt was unmistakable.

Allen’s lips curved into a sly, almost devilish grin as his eyes flickered with hesitation while studying Lillian. But after a brief pause, he let the arrow fly.

Lillian’s gaze sharpened instantly, tracking the arrow’s path. It was deliberately aimed close to her ear—a warning shot, perhaps. Allen was clearly playing along with some hidden scheme.

With barely perceptible energy, unnoticed by anyone else, the arrow’s flight subtly shifted, narrowly missing her ear and embedding harmlessly in the ground beyond.
