Chapter 234: The Shooting Match

Everly glanced sideways at the young woman beside her, a dark, mischievous sparkle lighting up her eyes. With a teasing smirk, she said, “Ms. Lillian, why don’t you join us? Grandpa told me to make sure you’re properly entertained.”

Lillian’s lips curved into a frosty smile. “Alright, I’ll join.”

Together, the group headed toward the shooting range, the air thick with anticipation and murmurs from the gathered crowd.

A line of young men and women stood watching intently. Before them was a large spinning wheel, and tied tightly to its frame was a boy, dirt smudging his skin from head to toe. His wrists and ankles were bound securely, and his head hung low, concealing any hint of his emotions.

About five meters away, a blond man stood behind a woman, guiding her hands as she drew back the bowstring. He chuckled darkly, “Aim straight ahead. I promise you’ll hit it on the first try.”

The arrow zipped through the air with a sharp whistle and grazed the boy’s arm. Instantly, blood welled up and trickled down his skin.

The crowd erupted into applause, clearly entertained by the cruel spectacle, while the boy remained silent, his expression unreadable even in pain.

Lillian’s brows knitted tightly. She was well aware that this was one of the so-called “entertainments” favored by Murica’s aristocracy, but witnessing it in person unsettled her deeply. Her stomach churned with a mixture of disgust and helplessness.

The blond man turned back to the target, a smirk tugging at his lips. “Guess I’ve gotten a bit rusty since I last played.”

Allen stepped forward with a laugh, shaking his head. “With skills like that, you shouldn’t be showing off. Missing such a large target is just pathetic. Let me give it a shot.”

He took the bow from a servant, instantly adopting a stance that was sharp, disciplined, and precise. The playful glint in his eyes vanished, replaced by a steely focus. With a crisp whistle as the arrow flew, it struck dead center of the target.

Applause broke out again, louder this time, filling the air with admiration.

Everly turned to Lillian with a sly smile. “Ms. Lillian, care to join in for a round?”

“Yeah,” someone else chimed in from the crowd, “especially with Mr. Whitmore by your side, looks alone won’t keep you in the game forever.”

Another voice teased, “But I’ve heard Dracovian women are pretty fragile. Are you sure Ms. Lillian can handle it? She might just end up killing the target instead.” A few women nearby giggled at the jab.
