Chapter 249: Eda’s Scheme

Eda offered a soft, almost serene smile. “No matter at all. I just hope you’re all having a wonderful time tonight. Please forgive me if I’ve missed anything during the evening.”

As she turned away, the wineglass sitting in front of Natalie tipped unexpectedly, sending red wine cascading down the front of her dress.

“Ah!” Natalie exclaimed, startled. The rich fabric was instantly soaked, the stain spreading rapidly—utterly unsuitable for such a formal event.

“I’m so sorry—truly, I didn’t mean to,” Eda said hurriedly, her voice laced with a flurry of apologies.

Natalie frowned, frantically blotting at the stain, but it was clear the damage was irreversible.

Lillian’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly, a flicker of suspicion crossing her face. That spill was no accident. Eda had deliberately knocked the glass over. But what was her real intention behind this calculated move?

“Let me send a maid to take you upstairs so you can change,” Eda offered smoothly, her tone deceptively calm.

Lillian’s brow knitted together in a subtle frown. She wasn’t about to fall into an obvious trap.

“There’s no need for such trouble,” Lillian responded with cool composure. “Just bring another dress here. I’ll escort her to the restroom so she can change there.”

She refused to blindly walk into whatever scheme Eda had planned.

Adeline immediately voiced her objection, her tone sharp. “Changing in the restroom isn’t appropriate at all. The bedroom is far more suitable.” She knew that if Lillian stayed in the main hall, their plan would be thwarted.

Lillian’s gaze sharpened, a cutting smile playing on her lips. “Oh? Then tell me—what exactly is so inconvenient about the restroom?”

“I—I…” Adeline stammered, her throat tightening under Lillian’s icy stare.

Eda quickly intervened, smoothing over the tension. “It doesn’t really matter where she changes. Adeline only meant that the restroom has people coming and going constantly. But it’s fine—I’ll have a dress brought down immediately. You can change wherever you prefer.” She gestured to a servant, signaling to fetch a dress, though inwardly she was seething. Adeline had nearly ruined everything again.

When the dress was delivered, Lillian personally led Natalie to the restroom. Before allowing her friend to change, she carefully scanned the area for any hidden devices or traps, making sure it was safe.

Once Natalie was dressed and ready, the two returned to the banquet hall.
