Chapter 250: Lillian’s Bold Retaliation

Neither Eda nor Adeline had anticipated that Lillian would abandon the expected script and instead summon the police. Their faces froze in shock, disbelief flickering in their eyes.

Leaning casually against the edge of the table, Lillian allowed a faint, almost teasing smile to play on her lips. “What’s the matter? Did I surprise you? You accused me of stealing the bracelet, didn’t you? So why not let the police handle it? Seems only fair, doesn’t it?”

Adeline’s entire body shook with a mixture of fear and frustration. She shot a quick, uneasy glance toward Eda, searching for support.

Eda’s eyes glistened with unshed tears as she faced Lillian, her voice trembling with a fragile innocence. “Lillian, how could you do this? You took my bracelet, and I thought—since we’re classmates—that if you just apologized, I might forgive you. I’m not unreasonable. I know your past wasn’t easy, growing up an orphan. The city’s temptations can be overwhelming; I understand how you might have slipped. But calling the police here, at my birthday party? That’s cruel.”

Lillian’s tone remained cool, almost detached. “Is it wrong to involve the police? You said the bracelet was stolen, that I took it. Isn’t it only fair to have them investigate? Or do you think that’s unreasonable?”

Emboldened, Adeline stepped forward. “Lillian, don’t be absurd. The bracelet was found in your bag—what else is there to say? Just earlier, when Eda spilled wine on Natalie and bent down to help, you were the only one nearby. Who else could have taken it? And sure enough, there it was, tucked inside your bag. What do you say to that now?”

Lillian’s eyes hardened, sharp as ice. Her voice sliced through the tension like a knife. “Adeline, are you absolutely certain? Are you sure the bracelet was mine to steal? Think carefully. Because once the police confirm otherwise, I will hold you accountable for slander.”

Adeline’s throat tightened, her face draining of color. “You—you can’t scare me. The bracelet was in your bag. Everyone saw it!”

A razor-sharp smile curved Lillian’s lips. “Very well. Then let’s wait for the truth to come out. We’ll see if you’re still so confident when the facts are laid bare.”

For the first time, a flicker of fear crossed Eda’s eyes.

Within moments, the police arrived, their presence commanding attention. Adeline wasted no time, launching into her embellished version of events, each detail exaggerated to cast Lillian in the worst light.

The officers turned their gaze to Lillian. They detected no panic, only a calm, unwavering clarity that made them hesitate.
