Chapter 30: The Gathering
As Lillian stepped into the private dining room, Olivia’s eyes locked onto her with a dark, venomous gleam—like a predator poised to strike. The tension in the air was palpable.
“Lillian,” Olivia’s voice was cold and sharp, “if you continue to show no respect, don’t blame me when I become ruthless.”
Inside the VIP suite, Lillian’s eyes scanned the room, surprised to find several people already seated around the table. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation.
No sooner had she and Jill entered than Natalie hurried over, her impatience clear. “You two took forever! We’ve been waiting forever!” she grumbled, clearly frustrated.
Jill rolled her eyes. “Don’t even get me started. We ran into a total lunatic on the way here.”
Dragging Lillian toward the table, Jill glanced around at the group assembled. “This is Lillian, my best friend. Make sure you take good care of her while she’s in Solara, alright?”
A young man with golden-blonde hair, sharp eyes, and a mischievous smile immediately spoke up. “Wow, a real beauty. Hey, Lillian, I’m Kelvin.”
Lillian nodded politely, keeping her greeting simple. “Nice to meet you.”
One by one, the others introduced themselves. It soon became clear that they were all Jill’s childhood friends, raised in the elite circles of Solara. Their bond was old and strong, forged through years of shared experiences.
After the introductions, Jill’s grin widened. “Lillian is my bestie, so none of you are allowed to mess with her, understood?”
Natalie quickly added, “Exactly! Lillian is my goddess—you all better treat her well!”
Lillian’s life had been a solitary one, spent mostly training in the mountains under her master’s watchful eye, far removed from the complexities of friendships and social ties. She had never actively sought out companionship, but Jill and Natalie had welcomed her into their world, offering a warmth she hadn’t known she needed.
Even if she didn’t require protection, it was comforting to know that someone cared.
Kelvin raised his glass of wine, his expression sincere. “Since you’re Jill’s friend, that makes you our friend too. If you ever need anything in Solara, just say the word—I’ve got your back.”
Lillian returned a small smile and nodded. “Thank you.”
