When Laney was escorted into the car, she sat stiflly across from the man before her. He swirled the red wine in his glass with practiced ease, the liquid catching the light as his lips curved into a devilish smile. He took a leisurely sip before speaking.

“You… what do you want with me?” Laney asked nervously, her eyes wary. She had no idea what this man was after.

Janus’s gaze dropped to her stomach. His smile deepened, his tone lazy. “So, you’re carrying Sebastian’s child?”

“Women are fools,” Janus said bluntly. “Always thinking they can use a baby to tie down a man. But how many of them end well? Especially in families like his–do you know how many illegitimate children are scattered outside? At best, your baby would just be another bastard. And in his world, children are the one thing they don’t lack. Tell me, what value does your child really hold? Do you think this lump of flesh in your belly will buy you the title of Mrs. Whitmore? “Well?” Janus’s voice was smooth, tempting. “Not a bad plan, is it? You’ll get exactly what you want, and he’ll have no choice but to acknowledge you. Two birds with one stone.”
