**Chapter 604: Laney’s Ending 4**
In the dimly lit study of the old Philips family residence, the air was thick with tension.
Merrick sat hunched over the polished mahogany desk, his fingers nervously flipping through the stack of documents before him. Each page felt like a weight pressing down on him, revealing secrets he had never wanted to confront.
Across the room, Sebastian lounged in a chair, a steaming cup of tea cradled in his hands. His demeanor was relaxed, almost too relaxed for the gravity of the situation, his expression betraying a hint of amusement as he observed Merrick’s growing agitation.
After a moment’s silence, Merrick’s hands began to tremble, betraying the storm brewing inside him. He lifted his gaze to Sebastian, his voice strained with disbelief, “Is this information accurate?”
Sebastian’s eyes glinted with a touch of mockery, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. “Considering the Austine family’s extensive influence in Murica, I’d say we can trust it. However, I must admit, the outcome caught me off guard.”
“That animal,” Merrick spat, slamming the documents down onto the table with a force that echoed through the room. Anger radiated from him as he continued, “So it’s true what they say—it’s nearly impossible to guard against a thief within one’s own family. No wonder we’ve been stumbling in the dark for years.”
Sebastian set his teacup down with deliberate slowness, his voice icy and devoid of warmth. “Listen, Merrick, I have no interest in how you choose to handle this situation, nor do I care about the petty squabbles within your family. My only concern is that Lilian remains unharmed. If she gets caught up in your Philips family drama because of this, I won’t hesitate to sever her ties completely.”
Merrick’s lips curled into a sneer, his tone condescending. “You need to remember something, kid. Lilian is of our bloodline. If you ever think about marrying her, you’ll have to get through me first.”
Sebastian’s expression darkened, his voice steady yet cold. “Merrick, you clearly don’t understand Lilian. She isn’t bound by this so-called bloodline. She doesn’t even acknowledge Henry, let alone your Philips family. To her, you might as well be strangers sharing the same blood.”
“You…” Merrick’s eyes blazed with fury as he glared at Sebastian, his mind racing with indignation.
Just then, the door swung open, and Foster strode in, urgency written all over his face. “Something’s happened to Miss. Unno just called. He mentioned that Miss sent him a text message. It simply stated the name of a bar and ‘Come quick.’”
