Lilian fixed the girl with a long, penetrating gaze before a cold, mocking smile slowly curved her lips. “Of course. Since Ms. Yulia personally invited me, it would be impolite to refuse,” she said with a hint of sarcasm. Rising from her seat, she followed Yulia out toward the garden, the evening air cool and crisp around them.
They paused beside the pool, the water shimmering faintly under the soft garden lights. Lilian cast a disdainful glance at the surface, her lips curling once again in quiet contempt.
Yulia stood silently for a moment, her eyes distant as she stared into the pool’s depths. Her voice dropped to a whisper, tinged with vulnerability. “Lilian, did you know I’ve loved Jeremy for ten years? Since we were children, I always pushed myself to be where he was—every school, every step. Through high school, he never once hurt me because of another girl. But now, because of you, he’s publicly denied any connection to me online.” Her gaze sharpened, a fierce glint burning in her eyes.
Lilian responded with cold calmness, “And?”
A venomous edge crept into Yulia’s voice. “What do you have that makes Jeremy hold onto you? You’re just some poor girl from nowhere! Why would he sever ties with me for you? What else do you offer besides your looks? You’re nothing but a little vixen!”
A sneer formed on Lilian’s face as she looked at Yulia. “Thanks for the compliment. Sounds like you’re admitting I’m more attractive than you. As for your so-called background—that’s your parents’ doing, not yours.”
She leaned in slightly, her tone sharp and unyielding. “To be blunt, you’re just a pathetic parasite. Without your parents, you’re nothing.”
With each word, Yulia’s face darkened, outrage and humiliation mingling. She had never been spoken to so harshly before. Everywhere she went, people admired and adored her. Yet here, in this garden, she was being torn down by the one girl she despised most.
Her frustration boiling over, Yulia’s expression twisted in fury as she glared at Lilian. “If you’re going to be so heartless, don’t blame me for fighting back!” Without another word, she suddenly hurled herself into the pool.
Lilian remained unmoved, standing perfectly still, her eyes cold and unreadable as she watched the scene unfold exactly as she had anticipated.
Yulia thrashed in the water, her voice rising in desperate cries. “Help! Help! Someone, please!”
Her screams quickly drew the attention of guests from the nearby banquet hall. A man rushed forward and plunged into the pool, pulling Yulia out with urgency.
Mandy hurried over, her heart pounding as she saw her daughter soaked and shivering. “Yulia, how did you fall in? Are you hurt? Are you alright?” she asked, wrapping a blanket tightly around her trembling child.
Yulia leaned weakly against her mother, tears spilling quietly as she sobbed into Mandy’s embrace.
