Since the gala ended, the atmosphere in the Philips family home had become exceptionally quiet.
Merrick spent his days shut inside his study. No matter how much Houis and Linette tried to persuade him, they couldn’t get him to leave the room.
Eric watched the two of them walk downstairs looking disheartened and said calmly,
“Your persuasion won’t work. After everything that has happened, Grandfather is finding it difficult to cope right now. He needs time to accept these facts.”
Houis and Linette walked to the far end of the sofa and sat down, sighing.
“I know the shock was immense, but we can’t let him just keep himself locked in the study. His health is already poor. If this continues, what if something happens?”
Eric placed his coffee cup on the table, his voice level.
“Don’t worry. Grandfather isn’t a three–year–old child; he knows his limits. Besides, he mentioned that he still has Lilian to look after, so he won’t allow anything to happen to himself based on that reason alone.”
Ivanov, who was sitting on a single sofa scrolling through his phone, brightened at the mention of Lilian’s name. He sat up straight.

Thinking of all that makes my teeth grind with hatred. How much worse must it be for your grandfather? Two children he raised himself became utterly depraved for the sake of profit. It’s understandable that he can’t accept it right away. If it were me, I couldn’t accept it either.”
Linette sighed. “Yes, in my interactions with Madison, I knew she had a calculating mind, but I never imagined she would do such utterly depraved things for her own benefit. It’s chilling just to think about it. It’s a miracle Lilian was spared; otherwise, we don’t know where Madison would have sold her to suffer.” She felt a pang of pity for the girl.
Houis suddenly remembered something. He looked at Eric, his expression hesitant. “Eric, are you truly without any resentment regarding your grandfather choosing Lilian as the successor? After all, he raised you as the heir for so many years, and everyone already accepted your status as the successor.”
Eric looked at Houis, his expression composed. “Dad, the Philips Corp ancestral code has existed for so long for a reason. That is why Philips Corp has remained brilliant in Murica for so long. If we want Philips Corp to stand tall indefinitely, we must abandon any narrow–mindedness. Actually, I already knew
